How often do you check your oil??

I did it every fill up when the truck was new for the first two years. Now once a month if I remember. The Jetta once a month.

I check it weekly because I've had cars that needed oil weekly

If they did not burn, I would probably still check every couple weeks just because its easy.

I believe 1/2 q is the ideal increment to add, as you only have to mess with an open bottle once. So, I say reset the odo and use a predictive method to get to that point, be it 500 miles, a 1000 or whatever.

It took a while to get used to the Hondas, which did not burn oil. Now, I think it would bother me if I had to add more than 1/2q between changes.

SO far, consumption has been minimal in the Tiguan, in the Astra...it burned a little bit of GC over the summer. Topped it with dino.;0)

How the heck do people check the oil at fill-up? It seems to take quite a while for the oil to drain, certainly longer than the time it takes to get gas? Also, I have a really difficult time even seeing the oil for the first 3K or so of an oil change--checking it hot makes it even worse. It pretty much looks like the dipstick has no oil on it, or there will be an unidentifiable smear of oil. I pretty much have to check it cold.

In the summer, I probably check it once a month, since my car doesn't consume oil. This time of year, I check it more since I open the hood every other day or so. I learned this the hard way after squirrels ate a bunch of my wiring...

Here's to cars with electronic dipsticks! I check mine every few days. It's very convenient -- just press a button on the turn signal stalk

Every couple weeks maybe sooner with the Festiva. So far it's required a quart every 1k but I think it's slowing. The Escape whenever I think of it usually every couple months. 6 months and 4k into this OC and no change.

My GF's 3L Duratech V-6 Mariner has been losing more oil in the last year. So I have to check it more than ever.

Once an OCI on the Jeep because the oil level on the dipstick never changes. Same for the VW, but I will check the oil level on the VW after a long road trip and even then it usually doesn't need any oil added.

Same here. Also, I check all the fluids, not just the engine oil.

Check your oil frequently (figure it out) until you determine whether the engine uses any. If it uses oil, check it more frequently. If it DOESN'T use oil, check it less frequently. Do what you're comfortable with.
