the bad: non workin a/c, headliner gone, crashed in the front. interior is trashed. salvage title, missing hub caps.

the good: new pass rear tire, battery, plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor, starter, air filter, fuel filter. All maintenance performed by me including: oil changes, brakes, coolant, transmission fluid.

Mechanically, the car runs fine. gets 40mpg. I'm thinking $700 obo. I think this car is too old for donation for tax write off. opinions? this is a third vehicle. that is up for tag renewal next month. not sure if I want to pay for renewal and pay for insurance for this vehicle anymore.

you still need "unleaded fuel only" distracting the driver something like 20 years after the stuff was introduced ?

Not sure on U.S. beater values, but $700 Oz with a little rego would be OK.

If it was on the corner near my house, I would be thinking $350 dollars. But then after I see the "salvage title", I wouldnt give $10 dollars for it.

As far as being to old to donate, I dont think so. I donated an old '74 Ford Mustang to the American Lung Association about 8 years ago. But having a salvage sitle, I dont know how that works. I had to have the original title for the tow-truck driver when he came by to pick up the old mustang.......

Do you go to church? Perhaps they know someone who really needs a car.

I got an e-mail from my Sunday School class, canvasing if anyone knew of a free or inexpensive car.

Perhaps this is a good route for your car.

$400 sounds about right. It may take a while to sell it, but if it can be driven some one may buy it for the parts or motor. Plus, if it is driveable the e-bay would be the most effective way to get rid of it fast.

What do I have to do to get you in this car today? $430 min as it seems to have at least $30 of gas in it. Throw in a set of floor mats, and we've got a deal.

I've had this car since 10/98. My college car. I was intending to drive this car into the ground with the salvage title and all, but it's been 2.5 yrs and it keeps going and going. With it being demoted to third car status since 3/06, I don't see keeping it anymore. I guess that's my fault, I should have quit changing the oil and maintenance.

That pass rear tire is flat due to the valve stem. it has a new douglas walmart tire on it now. more money I put in this thing. ebay and donating sounds like good options.

Just do as you said, just drive this car into the ground. Keep your other cars parked and protected. Then drive the little devil with no oil changes, no new fluids, etc. If not and I lived near you I'd give you a few hundred bucks for it and keep it going for a couple years.

PS The one new tire doesn't do much for me.

Find the right buyer, get on a mitsubishi specific forum and find the for sale section.

Lots of stupid kids would put $2000 worth of rims on this car, maybe even $1000 at a time.

Find out what the motor is named in Japanese then go for the "fast and the furious" crowd....

You already have the clear blinker mod on the passenger side.

Put the one good tire on the driver's front, and leave the wheel cockeyed when you show it. Most maroons who've looked at my jalopies seem satisfied with one look at one tire.

I had a 1990 Mazda MPV which had that same warning, under the tachometer. Must of been something some Japanese car companies were doing at the time.

My advice, speaking from experience, would be to donate it and forget about it. I don't think 1992 is too old to donate. My dad donated our 1990 MPV in 04, which had a broken transmission, and wrote it off for $2k! That was before the Feds changed the rules on that though. Selling it will not be appealing, because it will consume your time and expose you to the irritating crowd that buys bad cars like that. I had to deal with that when selling my 91 Corolla and it was not fun, lot's of overhead. Just give it to a good cause and forget about it. If you do choose to sell it, price it below $400, that's all it's worth in my opinion in that condition.

40 MPG is pretty good for a old beater like that, especially with those underinflated tires. I would suggest putting that in your ad if you choose to sell it.

When I started driving (a '65 stang) in '93 I thought they still sold regular at Arco that was good for old, leaded gas engines?
I was a not-nothing-16yr-old and that's what the previous owner and my mechanic told me.
That's all I used as long as I had the car.

Geez ! ! You guys are being awful tough on this poor guy ! That car looks better than 90% of the cars around here. I'd buy it in a heartbeat for seven or eight hundred bucks as a "work car". It's been maintained and so what if its a salvage title? Give it a good look-over and if it drives well, is straight, and the repairs don't present a safety hazard, it's well worth it. A car like this could easily last several more years of driving......and 40 mpg ! ! ! WOW !
