how much do you spend a year on oil changes?

my current oil of choice is german castrol. my oil pan takes 9 quarts. i change the oil once a year regardless of mileage, my average miles per year is 7,000, although this year i put less than 2,000 on it due to a closer job. but i'm changing it anyway just to be safe and make me feel good.

so that puts me at $60 per year still changing the oil with life left on it doing 2- 5 quart and filter deals. which that is nothing really. and i can also cheat and return the filters for store credit. my filter of choice is the purolator pure one though, so i keep those filters.

this car is also stored winters. my winter vehicle is shared so i don't spend the money for that oil, but i'll do the oil change every other change. that car usually gets the cheapest oil possible. its got service pro in it now(aco brand)
and my dad just bought a case of peak at $1.50/quart.

My Neon: 1 oil change per year regardless of mileage. I have driven it a grand total of 10,000 miles in almost 3 years. 800-900 of those miles are from a trip to Niagara Falls. Since it sits so much I've started driving it to work about once every other week to keep it moving and the battery charged, so mileage will go up but intervals will not shorten. So that means about $22 for a 5qt of QS Q or PP and a filter. Generally a Purolator Classic, but I grabbed 2 PureONEs on the recent Advance Auto sale.

My wife's Caliber: About 15,000 miles per year, currently on 5000 mile intervals. That means $22 for the oil each time, so ~$66 per year. Only used PureONEs on this car except for two changes where I got a killer deal on 2 Mopar filters.

My work car, Prius: $0. Free oil changes from the Toyota dealer. I could get free tire rotations if I spent a little extra time, but in the end $20 every 5000 miles for the tire rotation isn't bad from the dealer. I don't pay a cent for the car, so it's the company that pays for it.

I always buy oil on sale. I never pay full price, so I generally have no set output on oil change supplies, because if synthetic is affordable enough, I will even run it in my Saturn (normally conventional)

Guessing I probably spend $70/80 year on oil and filters. (filters are only a few dollars, around $5, and oil is almost always $10/jug. I am running PP right now but its only because I just did the timing chain, and I'm breaking it it on the good stuff. Back to conv. after this.

Saturn...Using Mobil 1 Extended Performance so 1 change a year with a Saturn filter. Truck..Using Mobil 1 0w30 with a Pure One filter with one/two changes a year.

So as much as $75 for oil and the cost of three filters.

I spend $30-35 on oil and filter per vehicle per year. If synthetic I change once per year, if Semi I change twice per year. Just put 5W50 Synthetic Pennzoil in my BMW and I am going to go to a 2 year OCI.

One thing I have learned from this site, is that I was changing my oil WAY too often. Waste of money and does nothing beneficial.

About 90 bucks, 3 changes/year with Mobil 1 10w30 HM and 5w30 HM. I'll run it to 7000 miles, all highway, I do about 20-21,000 miles/year.

I have 2 cars and I'm on a yearly OCI with both. I use Mobil EP with the Mobil EP oil filter that I buy usually at OReillys for about $33 plus tax, and so I pay about $70 a year. Keep in mind that I used to use dino and have Jiffy lube or the Lexus dealership change it about 2 to 3 times a year for about $50 each time. And so I am saving a whole lot of money.

the car is a 2001 mustang bullitt
4.6 motor with a higher capacity oil pan, it could take another quart or two if i wanted too
i just got done putting a single turbo kit on it. just in time for winter, lol. but i do have other odds and ends to do, they'll be done over winter.

it is fun, it had a vortech centrifical supercharger on it before, it should be twice as fun now.

i thought about using amsoil but even with the preferred customer
enrollment the oil is 7 or so dollars a quart. the german 0w30 is nearly as good and leaps beyond hydrocracked synthetics so it is a bargain. well see how it holds up to the turbo!

Not enough to even be concerned with it! I try to buy cheapest "top tier" gas I can find, and I easily save 5 cents/gallon which is a dollar/fill-up by just looking around a bit. Over a years time, that simple $1 (or more) savings per each tank easily covers oil and filter, and I even run synthetics!

I use mostly syn, and that is what three of the four have in them now.
Figure around 1/3 cent per mile.
We can probably afford that.

3 times a year @ less than $15 a change for under $45 a year. I use synthetic $1/qt rebate oil, and a Pure-one or Mobil 1 filter that I get on sale or with a rebate for under $6. All not including tax.

I have 3 cars, the oldest one is '94 LS400: 6-7k/6mo OCI with dino or 12-15k/12mo OCI with syn. Cost of dino was $0.49/qt of free after rebate, cost of syn was $1-2/qt after rebate. Cost of oil filter was $2-3 each or some was FAR. Since it uses 1/2 quarts every 3-4k miles and the sump is 5.5 qt, the total oil used a year is about 7 qt syn or 12 qt dino. One oil filter a year, reuse oil filter with dino, total cost of oil change for LS400 is about $10-15 a year.

The E430 has 1 oil change a year with 8.5 qt, cost is about $15-25 a year.

The S2000 has 1 oil change a year with 5.5 qt, cost is about $10-15.

Total cost for 3 cars is as little as $35 and as much as $55. The cost to fill up the LS400 is as much as $60 or a little higher.

The GC we average 25k per year, 5k interval and 6 qts.

The Wrangler is about 22k per year, same interval and 4.5 qts.

At $5 per quart that's 275 plus 36 for filters - $311. total.

Depends how long I run the oil I'm using

With the Redline,I ran that for 11-months and that was 10$ a quart = 50$ plus K&N oil filter = 11$ total = 61$

Crown Vic oil is changed twice a year so:
$2.70 a quart for Mobil Clean 5000 x 5-quarts plus ford oil filter.

I figure I'm good for 3 filters @ $6/each and 4 jugs of Mobil 1 0w30 at about $23/each. So that's $110 plus or minus a smidge.
