I'm curious to know how much you guys pay for oil change weather it's from the dealer or independent shop. Do they just drain your oil and refill it?

I work at a Toyota dealer as a tech and they charge $34.95 for a oil change. When a car comes in for oil change we check the entire car out. Tire pressure is checked and adjusted if needed. All fluids are topped off. An inspection sheet is filled out and given to the customer later. As for the oil we use Mobil Clean 5W-20 and 30. If a car uses 0W-20 the customer would pay a little extra cause it's a synthetic oil.

So I'm wondering how's your experience with your local dealer or independent shop?

Believe it or not, it's about the same here in Canada. Most places are in the $35 to $40 range, with differences, of course, with use of synthetics. One of the Asian dealers here (don't recall which one off hand, one of either Toyota or Nissan) is currently offering an oil change for $24.95.

My aunt takes It to my shop :) she pays 38.95 for castrol gtx and a champ filter. Also top-off all fluids including gear boxes if low. Vacuum, wash windows.battery test, set tire pressure, check all lights, filters, belts and hoses grease any fittings. Takes about twenty min.

Wow, I work at a Valvoline Instant Oil change location and people are constantly screaming at me about how our $34.99 is way too expensive (as if I decide the prices).

I hate that. Then I explain our service and they calm down. Some people are just rude. Also hate the customers that try to tell u how to do your job. "Make sure that filter tight, you have to hand tighten it". I just don't say anything and smille

I'm the only one that does oil changes on my car, so I'm a bit out of date when it comes to oil change prices. When my dad takes his PT Cruiser to the Dodge dealership for an oil change, they charge $10 on certain days of the week. On my old car, I used to pay between $15-20.

I change my own oil on my collector cars, but take my beater to get done, especially when it's the winter.

I take the Grand Prix to my local mechanic. He charges $13 for a change of 10w30 Wolfs Head and a Parts Master filter from Auto Value.

[censored] how much do you make off an average oil change ticket, have many repeat customers?

Most local MB dealers charge $200 for Service A, and that's when it's on "special". Regular price is somewhere around $250 I think. Service A is just a glorified oil change... they do other checks as part of it, but don't really replace anything apart from oil and filter.

Luckily, I can do this myself and save a few bucks as I think these prices are outrageous.

9 qts of synthetic oil (MB 229.5 spec) = $54
1 fleece oil filter = $12
Total: $66.

Local Goodyear shop is at $17.95. 5qts. Kendall Synthetic Blend Motor Oil with Liquid Titanium 5w30, GF-5. Champ filter. Checkoff sheet = lights, turn sig's, belts, tires, wipers, air filter, fluids.
$20 out the door.

My local MB dealer charges $250 for an oil change (service A). I change my own with an oil extractor for $20: 8.5 quarts syn oil bought on sale for $1-1.5/qt + oil filter for $7-8. Cost of oil and filter of S2000 is about $15 with syn oil bought on sale.

For LS400, I took it to a mechanic to pay $10 for labor using my oil and filter.

I change my own oil, cost me 30 bucks for 5 qts M1 10w30 HM and a P1 filter. Most shops charge around 50 bucks and they use a cheaper, lower grade synthetic to boot.

Around here, the Jiffy Lube was $24.95 I think (where I drop off my old oil), and the other local shops range from $17.95 - $34.95 conventional.

I do my own:

Synpower ($1.35/quart), PureOne ($5.00), so works out to about $11 or so per OCI on each car, twice a year.

where do u get those deal from?

I do my own.

Nissan, $30 for OEM filter, and $65 for oil.
E30, $5 for filter (bought a dozen filters that will fit), and $30 for oil. Delvac 2 might make that $0 for oil next time.
