Thinking about selling my Jeep. Wife says 3 vehicles for myself is too many. Its got about 170K on the clock but only 74K on the reman engine. Sprayed with Carwell so no rust. Inside and outside are in good shape. 4WD with SelecTrac. But I am in no hurry to sell.

So if you get rid of the Jeep you will be driving the Ram 2500?

or do you have 4 cars including the wifemobile?

Edmunds says 2000-4000$ for the Jeep.

I'd think it would bring 4000$ easily in good shape

Reman engine does not really add much value... still tons of stuff that is getting old at 170000 miles and 15 years.

Wife has her own car, 3 for me, 1 for her. If you count my snowcat and Bobcat, then its 5 for me 1 for her.

I need a window regulator installed and fix the P0442. I will get that done. Those are maint items.

cant give you a price but i can tell you what i paid for mine 5 months ago.

96 GC 4.0 95k 4wd quadratrac near perfect condition outside and inside only flaw is torn front seats down the center. i had to replace the radiator but $100 so whatever.

i paid $2500 in south georgia at a dinky car lot. jeeps are my first love and i would give a rough price of 4200 max if you had papers of reman engine

We probably need pics to better assess the situation.

Having said that rickmeseke is probably right. A rust free 4WD with a rebuilt engine in upstate NY would probably bring in close to the high end of the range from various guides.

Then you will probably get less than market value for it. People who overprice their cars tend to have the car sit for a while. After a while, the people who are in the market for the car see the overpriced car and write it off. Then you're only appealing to people who just started looking, so if you're lucky, you might appeal to one of them. Pricing is just related to supply and demand, overpriced means no demand and lowering the price later tells some people that there must have been something wrong with it, so you are lowering the demand.

Hello, Sis had a 1999 XJ (Cherokee Sport), black w/grey cloth interior, 171K, SelecTrac (NP242).
'Twas clean under hood due to replaced PCV system, oil pressure sensor and new hoses + coolant.
Recent VC gasket, alternator, A/C compressor, serp belt and tail gate cylinders.
Clean 'n clear trans, brake, diff and transfer case fluid.

Near perfect body. Listed for sale 2 days after Hurricane Sandy (possibly the problem).

Gas prices were higher then.

The phone didn't ring.

Sold it to friends for $3,000.

I think a Grand Cherokee (piggy, aged "mommy wagon" with legendary electrical weaknesses - and not really a "Jeep") could fetch less.

A lot will depend on your schedule and where Upstate you live. Kira

A search here for Cherokees bring 95% Grands and 5% XJs.

I'd tell the wife you're holding off for near winter weather to get top dollar. Then maybe she'll forget and stop nagging. Or you could try for top dollar.
