How Much Are You Paying For An Air Filter?

"Did the price of air filters go up? Or is it just because my car is new?"

Because it it new. I remember how shocked I was years ago when I went to buy a replacement air filter for my nine month old '87 Taurus. I don't remember the exact price, but I do remember that it was more than double the price I was used to paying for filters for my '84 Scirocco. Now those Taurus filters are dirt cheap, but back then they were new and relatively rare.

Fram seems to make a better fitting filter in every application I have tried. I was buying the STP 8 dollar paper filters, but they fit a little bit loose.

Those who mentioned Amazon in the past are right on!

I pay yearly to be an "Amazon Prime" member; $ 79.00.

The cost may sound high, but all shipping is free for the year and the shipping is 2nd Day Air UPS.

I've ordered cases and cases of Redline Oil, Hitches/Receivers, Ball Mounts, all for deeply discounted prices, all with free shipping.

Amazon will ship you almost anything... Laundry Detergent for example at Costco/Sams pricing.

I just ordered a Wix 42488 for my 08 5.3 Silverado... $ 15.25, free shipping, no tax.

If you need everything from Amazon in a hurry or you buy 1 or 2 things at a time for less than $25 then it may be okay for Prime membership of $70. I like free ground shipping with orders above $25 without any other fee.

Just paid $10 for a Hengst filter for the 530i.

Cabin filters, on the other hand, are about $20 each, and there are two of them on the car.

$15 for OEM paper flat filters (interval is 40K miles), $40 to $50 for synthetic dryflow cone filters (for the AFE CAI) from AEM or Amsoil (washable, good forever essentially, filters better).
