Great story.
They got a snowstorm and the car was stuck in the driveway. Instead of waiting 24 hours and digging it out and driving it out easily he decided he would declare war and tried to rock it out and ended up turning the tranny into a bowl of crunchy pudding.
He posted vids of the attempted extraction,all the smoke,melted the snow around the tires then took a break for just long enough for that melt to make ice,then it was foot on the floor from forward to reverse until there was a red puddle of tranny fluid under the car.
Had he waited 1 day we'd likely still have the Volvo running thread except it would have a couple hundred pages by now.

There will be a Volvo #3. (Probably a 1998, 1999 or 2000 V70 XC. White or silver r "Moondust.") Both were so great, I loved them.

And yes, both could have been saved by WAITING. Now i have the Blazer, which, much to my surprise, I dont like as much as I once did.

The thing that went in the whole picture was the passenger........ Let's not go there, ok?

Flip flopping is going to hurt you more than anything else. Don't like the blazer? Volvo? Etc. pick one, stick with it, stay on course, work, set goals, then achieve them. Not much beyond that.

LOL, that must have been the last straw before the old lady threw him out.

We should get back on topic and allow him to get some more advice though.

I say stick with the Blazer until you get enough money from these 2 jobs to stabilize yourself financially, then buy the XC v70.

If you keep putting money into Blazer #1, where is the money going to come from for Volvo #3?

Let me ask, is there ever a car you don't love at least some of the time? You were tooling around in the taurus as well.

Love/hate relationship?

You seem impressed when a car starts, stops, and goes where you point it.

One thing about having two jobs is it's time tied down and you won't fritter away your money being bored. I had a 70 hr/ week summer job on an island of all places and that long boat ride kept money in my pocket.

If I ditched the Blazer, I would take the Sunfire. No attachment.

Par tof me knows this Blazer is more than I cna handle, part of me loves it!
 
Work two jobs for as long as you can. And, you might be surprised how long that lasts. When I was in my early 20s I worked food service as an Assistant Manager. My store manager went multiunit to train as an AGM so that left me to run one of his stores. I consistently worked 80-95 hours/week.

After a month, I complained to my AGM and he pulled out a pocket calculator and as a matter of fact (no discussion) showed me that there are 168 hours in a week and that by working 95 hours, I still had 73 hours in the week, or over 10/day to sleep and shower.

I did that for several more months until I got passed over for promotion to store manager and I moved out of state. Looking back, in many ways it was a good experience for me.

That's the case if you are working for the ideal management, many times doing that simply means that the management simply comes to expect that kind of dedication, WITHOUT rewarding it. I know from personal experience at MANY different jobs.

Yeah, that wouldn't have gone over so well with me.

I would have replied with something along the lines of:

A standard work week is 40 hours.
You're making me work 95 hours.
I'm getting paid overtime for 0 hours being a salary manager.
And every week that you make me work 95 hours, I'm missing out on 55 hours that I would have had with family, friends, and a nice comfy bed.

I must figure out the best way to follow up with mcDonalds. Would not be surprised if DD has me working every day this week.

Did you mail a thank you note to the interviewer after it? I get it that these arent professional jobs, but that is the usual SOP.

Were you interviewed by a store person, or was it someone who is more of a recruiter or regional person?

That will drive the approach.
 
Who runs your DDs? Get in good with him, the owner might own a Subway or McDonalds as well.

Show him a good breakfast employee and show interest in working lunch.
 
What about working at Autozone or Advance Auto? They seem to always be hiring. Plus it's something you're interested in and passionate about. Go for it! Oh, and there's probably a 10% off employee discount or something. Just be very careful about not spending much of your paycheck on stuff there.

Advance Auto in my town was built on the site I attempted suicide with a gun 14 years ago. No thanks.

As to the Blazer, it ma ybe parked for awhile. Realizing that, even with the 02 sensor coming and timing maybe in the cards (the next thing to do even before 02 sensor..)

: - Time to leave it at a shop?
- Money to pay them?
- How to get to/from?

Looks like I may be back to my days of getting a ride from ol' Mom. Still seeking McDonalds job. Will know what is up with that when I call back in a half.

Not giving up the Blazer feels good. Then I have money to fix it.. and Volvo #3 for 2014!

The latest.. is... that...

1. We PARK the Blazer. ot go trading it for [censored] Sunfires or even nice Civics.. but PARK and KEEP it.
2. This is because there is no MONEY and little TIME/LOGISTICS to even TAKE it somewhere to:
a. Get TIMED.
b. 02 sensor.
c. HEADLIGHT...
3. It has a tank of PREMIUM in it and it runs BETTER but code still comes on, so. Not a FIX.
4. I then get DRIVEN to work.
5. I am INQUIRING about 2nd job. It either will happen. or it WONT!

That is the latest.
