I am trying come up with an engine or two that would take 18 plugs?
3 plugs per cylinder? 3 inline 6's?
I think I'm at 28 or so, four 4 cyl cars, a twin cyl outboard, and then all the OPE, riding mower and sleds and dirtbike only have one plug! Tractor has 4 glow plugs.
We'll have to hear from Taildragger, but one possibility is a double-banked radial engine (2 x 9), or a 9-cylinder radial w/ 2 plugs/cylinder.
How about a B-36 Peacemaker? Six piston engines driving pusher props, each engine equipped with four banks of seven cylinders, for total of 28 cylinders/engine and 168 cylinders total. Each cylinder was fired by two spark plugs for a total of 336 plugs. The four auxiliary engines were jets ('six that turn and four that burn') and so were not equipped with plugs.
Personally, I maintain 14 spark plugs (one 6, and two 4s). The lawnmower has been replaced by a cordless electric.
