How Many People Buy Their Oil Based On Low Price ?

I stocked up on a bunch of oreilly synthetic with the mobil 1 filters.

I figure most oil is oil and if you change it within a reasonable period of time it will keep your engine running long past the vehicle itself.

Save money where you can because unless you plan on driving the car for a million miles, it's not going to matter what brand oil you put in it.

I believe on a quality oil also but i will wait for it to be a good price or be on sale...sometimes wal mart goes up in price on oil that is when i wait because it almost always comes down because their sales hit the skids and start collecting dust then that is when i but it..
My brother always used the yellow bottle but when the price went up he changed brands and now he is using this other brand which gives good reports at blackstone

I don't like buying in stores.Anything.I shop a lot on line.I have been using Amsoil products for 15 years.I never have liked changing brands of oils or lubes. Most vehicles I have owned have had the same brand of oil or lubes in them from the beginning to end of my ownership of them.I have always sold EVERY used car or truck of mine for top dollar with compliments of how well they ran/drove.Some with 200k plus on them. To me REAL synthetics are all high mileage and extended drain. If not to me its just better quality Dino and should not be labeled synthetic.Been using REAL synthetic products since 1970s.Started with Chemlube oil back then and ran it 10k between oci's.

My perspective has always been that motor oil is a very small maintenance cost compared to the overall cost of the vehicle. I will obviously try and get the lowest price of the particular brand I am looking for.

You generally get what you pay for with motor oil. (notice I said generally). Except when it's Castrol Syntec.

I have enough oil for 3-4 yrs of oil changes, Dino at less than .69 cents each and lots of PP at .99 cents each. Have 4 cars and never buy oil unless it's on sale.

Sure, but as long as the oil meets the industry standards like SAE SM or better, the brand doesn't really matter, perhaps you might get a slightly better add pack from a major brand name, but honestly other than industry standards how do we really know about the "performance" for the consumer it is very hard to find out a baseline and have the data to back that up, so we have to rely on industry standards for a assurance of performance.

You SHOULD really buy based on whether the oil meets the current industry standards and the lowest price possible.
If you can get a major brand that meets current standards at a very low price...BUY IT!

I'm still have a lot of Tropartic from the Dollar Store I use in my 2006 Tacoma, but I use brand name synthetic in the FJ Cruiser my wife drives that I got on sale because she goes longer in between changes. I do pay normal price for 20w50 I run in the spare car.

I don't buy engine oil that saves a couple of pennys a day. I buy the oil that has proven to me to keep my engines clean and long lived for a third of a century.

I use SL oil in my vehicles. SM is for early adopters

For our Vibe I only use MaxLife 5W30. It is up to $16 for 5 quarts at Walmart but I still buy it because the vehicle does very well on it (no visible sludge under the oil cap, no oil consumption).

For our 2010 Equinox I'll be switching to Mobil 1 full synthetic at the next oil change until my free oil changes expire in about 15k (I'll probably have to pay the difference between conventional and synthetic). Then I'll do the changes myself and get the cheapest full synthetic I can find probably.

I'll buy a brand when it's on super-sale and stash it if it's a good product.

When buying as-needed, an extra $5 is no big deal. I'd love to buy some PZ Ultra, but don't need it when I have others to substitute.

The only dino oil I have now is a stash of Havoline DS 5w-20. Dino isn't a good investment right now, unless you service a car that takes it.

I know scored PP 5w30 15.50 for 5 qt jug has instant rebate coupon, was there to pick up QS synthetic 18.50 with 10$ MIR Just this week end , have enuff for 2 OCIs

Been getting cases of Supergard Blend for $.99 to $1.49 / qt after rebate (comes up a few times a year) I think I would grab any SM oil for $.99, but I usually don't "shop for oil"

The idea of a < $10 OC is just too compelling @ this point.

I recently got my 2001 Ford Mustang GT and was debating on different oils to try as Valvoline Max Life FULL SYNTHETIC is getting hard to find.

I wanted to reap the benefits of a 0w motor oil. I am not going to help Ford with the CAFE credits so I decided on 0w-30.

I had it down to either Amsoil, Castrol German, or Mobil 1. I have a couple of places near me that carry Amsoil, but none had 0w-30. I found out it was about $10.50/qt. I thought that was too high so I looked for Castrol German at Autozone which is the only place around me that has it. They had only old, dusty bottles of it and it was about $8/qt. Still too high.

So I went to Wal-Mart and got a 5 qt. jug for $21 ($4.20/qt.) plus a 1 qt. bottle for I think around $6 as my car takes 6 qts.

On top of that, the Mobil 1 0w30 is A LOT EASIER to find.

So for just oil...

Amsoil = $63.00
Castrol German = $48.00
Mobil 1 = $27.00

I like to run 10K OCIs with a 5K oil filter change and top off. I did this with my other Mustang using Valvoline Max Life FULL SYNTHETIC 5w30 and a Motorcraft oil filter without any problems whatsoever.
