How many months when manufacture date too old?

The way I had understood it was that there were two numbers, six and ten years. Six years being the recommended in-service limit, and ten years being an absolute age condemnation criteria,

The delta existed to allow a buffer of time for installation, and some discretion for low use vehicles, tires that look to be in good condition, etc,

Ive read that tires can (dry?) rot from the inside out. Ive never experienced that - they always look brand new inside, but can be pretty dirty, browned or cracked on the outside. My suspicion is that damage from the inside out is from folks who use oiled air compressors, without sufficient traps, and volatilization of the oils do the tires in.

For low use cars stored without direct sun exposure, Ive been able to get 10 years.
