I bought a Napa Gold filter and I a switching over to Amsoil ASL 5W30 shortly. How long would this oil filter safely last on a 1MZFE with lots of city driving? How long would filters designed for synthetic last such as Mobil 1/ K&N / Amsoil compared to the Napa Gold?

Good question. The construction of the NG/WIX filter is top notch, but you sorta have to rate your oil and filter based on fuel consumption. Assuming you do mostly full warm up city driving, then it should last a decent amount of time. If you're in cold start situation and the engine is frequently in a warm up mode ..the combustion process is going to dump loads of byproducts into the sump.

Things to think about in your situation:

How is your average mpg compared to your peak mpg?
What's your annual mileage?
What's your typical daily drive?

Can't actually answer those questions as the car is new. What I can say is that I never excessively idle the car and the car is usually fully warmed up before I reach my destination. How soon after reaching operating temperature is gas still present? I do cut it pretty close sometimes.

Also I do live in a rather cold climate as the yearly average low is around -1 celsius.

My driving varies from medium trips, longs trips, and occasional highway. What is considered a short trip? Not long enough that the car is warmed?

Annual mileage? Possibly 40,000 kilometers. My mileage always warrants an oil change rather than date.

This probably won't help (or maybe it will).

The NAPA GOLD/WIX filters have to meet OEM specs.

I just completed a 13,118 km run using Syntec with an OEM AC Delco cartridge filter on my car. Other than being coated in oil, the filter appeared to be in perfect condition.

Driving was probably about 85% suburban with the rest being highway.

The oil is going to the lab next week, so that will be the real test.

That's 24k miles/year. Did you put one too many zeros on there. To do that with city driving is nearly taxicab service.

I ran a WIX in my Subarus for 15,000 miles with no degradation in UOA values, but, that's Subaru and WIX. I'd be comfortable doing the same with a NAPA Gold in my Subarus.

Are not the Wix and Napa Gold the same filter?...

That's what I have heard, but, I've never compared them myself, so, didn't want to pass on info that I'm not certain about in case it isn't true. However, I did see the Loch Ness Monster on a Toyota truck commercial, so, I know Nessy is real.

The only rebadged WIX is the NG. They're the same filter. Just to be clear: There is only ONE filter manufactured that is marketed under the WIX label by WIX. No lower tier offering. This same filter is also sold by NAPA under the NAPA GOLD line. Many other filters are produced by WIX and sold under various labels. Some of these are also sold by NAPA and various other vendors ..but they are not the same filter that carries the WIX or NG label.

Since you are playing with Amsoil ask Amsoil.

The Carquest Blue I believe, well, the top of the line filter sold at Carquest under the Carquest lebel (just like Napa) is a Wix.

That is correct, and also Kralinator is identical to Wix/NAPA Gold too.

Yep ..the CQ Blue is a WIX clone too. Car Quest isn't quite the player as NAPA is ...so it's easier to over look. The Car Quest Red is (or was) also a Wix produced product ..but more along the Pro Select level of quality.

how does Napa Gold, Carquest Blue and Wix compare? I the last Wix I got for my 2007 Escape from Oreilly's was $8.

I can't comment about Carquest, but I can get Wix filters at O'Reilly's cheaper than I can get NAPA Gold filters from the local NAPA store.
