How many here 'cruise'...?

Years ago, 'pleasure cruising' was quite a pastime. Families used to go for 'Sunday Drives', young people used to 'cruise the strip', and people who just liked driving used to just drive around, or do day-tripping to discover new places....

This activity has severely gone out of style with escalating gas prices and environmental concerns.

I have to confess, I still do. I love driving, and my wife loves being a passenger on car trips, so we do a lot of driving 'for the heck of it' - day trips to see her family 80 miles away, exploring new parts of our city or new towns...it's a very large chunk of the mileage on our car.

Yeah, I know it's not 'environmentally friendly'...etc....but we love it. Anyone else here guitly of this now frowned-upon activity? Confess!
 
I love taking road trips! I take the t-tops off and take drives to the beach,lake,or the river almost every weekend :^) I love taking drives!!!!
 
I do it sometimes, road trips are great

I love driving just for the fun of it. I don't do it so much these days, not because of the phony excuse of the environment, but because I'm at the peak of having kids at home. They, just want to get wherever we're going... "Are we there yet?" Someday when we're back to just me and my sweethart, we'll take some drives again.
 
Absolutely! Still do and enjoy it very much. Driving clears my head and allows me to think, the open road is inspiring.

BTW, Mother Nature doesn't mind at all, honest and sensible scientists everywhere are beginning to see the light. The UN and their minions will not win this economic war unless we allow them to.

If it makes you feel guilty, just stop along the way and plant a tree or two....lol.....It seems to relieve Al Gores conscience as he flies around the world in a private jet.
 
Didn't want to turn this into a global warming thread.

Just want to hear about people who like to drive, no matter what.
 
Sorry......Just replying to the concerns you laid out in your original post(twice).

If its not part of the discussion, why mention it.....Guilt is how they plan to take your pleasure away, is that not relevant?

I can't really afford to do it a whole lot, but I do.

I'm about to make an unnecessary trip a little later today. I need to pay the water bill, and while I could just throw a check in the mail, I'm going to drive to uptown and pay at the drive thru. Yes, Charlotte actually has a drive thru where you can pay your bills.

You're absolutely right, I did mention it, and it is a part of the discussion.

But I mentioned it as more of a reason why people don't do it, or try to force others not to do it. I don't agree with it - a bit a driving for fun will not be the end of the planet.

I just didn't want the thread locked b/c of a debate on GW.
 
I do it frequently. I love driving, so does my family. It is a tradition I grew up with and one my children are as well.
 
Sometimes. I usually need a purpose, such as seeing something specific or going to a point on the map.

I don't mind driving, but it is a hassle at times.
 
I think we are on the same page then......I'm new here and didn't realize that the subject was as touchy as it seems to be. For fear of risking further scrutiny, I'll keep my opinions regarding the stiffling of dissenting opinions to myself....Fot the time being.

Anyway, yes, i go for drives that have no real purpose.

Back in highschool we used to drive around for no reason, now I havent had alot of time on my hands to do it. I should start to go on cruises once in a while
 
I do all the time-I bought a fuel sipper and I hypermile. Hypermiling is fun too-and it helps offset the amount of driving I do. My wife loves going on day or weekend trips with the kids, too.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh......... your government? C4C? CAFE? Higher gas taxes? Al Gore, Michael Moore, and a million others?

Never mind, forget I said it. I'm glad for you! Be happily ignorant! I should practice it myself...
