So a buddy of mine has to go out on a business trip tomorrow. He was checking the company car--Ford Escape--before he leaves. He pulled the dipstick to find it bone dry and covered in varnish with a black substance resembling oil on the filler cap. He called me, so I brought a couple quarts over to add. We added around 1.6 quarts but no oil showed up on the dipstick.
The Escape is a 2006 with 110k miles on it already. I found the oil change sticker that said it was due at 93,800 miles, so it is about 13-14,000 miles overdue by normal dealer standards which is where it gets serviced.
He's slightly worried about going tomorrow given the state of the vehicle. He was supposed to go last week, but our weather prevented it. I just told him to make sure his cell phone is charged since that is the only vehicle available, and if the engine goes, it goes.
How much oil do you think would need to be missing before the oil pressure light came on in that thing? The light was not on. Thoughts?
