how long is the "sweet time" will M1 synthetic bring you?

I am not 100% sure if it is my imagination or it is true.

Every time after change oil, I had about 2K to 2.5K of enjoyment and then I
started feeling the engine is louder and not as silky.
I heard that Mobile 1 synthetic can last easily 5K for oil change interval
but I don't feel smooth throughout the 5K at all.
Am I mistakenly lengthen the oil change or...?

If it never last 3K of good time, I might as well use dino oil and change it
every 3K. I have been changing oil every 5K in last 25K, should I change
the interval?
What is your observation and suggestion?

5,000 miles? I get that out of dino Havoline and Motorcraft blend. Used oil analysis is really the only way to tell how long an interval is safe, but full syn should be good for at least the longest interval recommended in the owners' manual.

My observation is the same as yours. M1 is noisy in the crankcase. And thus I blend it with dino like Delo 400 and drain it at 4500miles. M1 is an extremely good lubricant at the critical lube points, but is poor overall at making the engine run smoothly. My suggestion is to blend and top off with dino to retain the smoothness.

Some engines run really well on Mobil1 oils (my 12V VR6 is one of them), while others run either not as smooth or noisier.. There doesn't seem to be a correlation between engine noise and increased wear metals when using Mobil1.

In winter my car had some valve chatter (noise) for the 1st min or 2 with GC and Esso XD-3 0w30, I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 and the engine has never been quieter. It makes me want to stay with M1!

I've used Mobil 1 for the past year and have never noticed this. Currently in first third of 7K OCI with 5W-20.

Which Mobil 1, viscosity, engine and filter?

It could be my imagination but I think my Civic engine is more noisy when I reach 6,000 miles on M1 0W-20. After a change it is quiet and smooth again.

Same observation! But I need to emphasize "not as silky". Doesn't necessarily mean loud (for everyone) or annoying. I take that into the consireration for OCI. I just can't overrride this. I run a 5k mile OCI. After that, "not silky" factor is more noticable. Very interesting that we came into the same milages depending on the observations. Either the similar engines (GM LE2), or just some of us are sensitive nuts

Let's accept this, oil is continiously and gradually degrading once inside the engine. Recommended OCI is cost/longevity optimization not the cost/NVH. But then again, if I consider 3000 'heavy duty' , 7500 for 'normal' driving recomendations and my commute pattern, 5k isn't out of tune. Just that manuals tend to give clear but discrete options. Appears that my ears are well tuned

Before the ages of loboratories there used to be a wise man in each 'polis'

Whatever you are experiencing is NOT the so called degradation of oil. I think it has more to do with the placebo effect than any chemical changes in the oil. I think indeed if you continue to change oil at the 5,000 mile interval you are far better off using a conventional oil and saving the money. I am a long time and mileage user of Mobil One, 5w30, 5w40, 0w20, 19 years and over 773,000 miles. My normal OCI's are 15,000 to 25,000 miles. Changing oil 1 time when 3 will do just fine is part of what is "sweet" to me!?

I noticed the same thing - in warmer weather with Mobil 1 and my engine. It sounded really noisy after having the oil run in the engine for awhile (2k or so).

A lot of people have reported Mobil 1 making certain engines loud. I think this goes to show that an oil isn't necessarily the best for all engines.

I put German Castrol 0w30 in my car and it quieted down considerably (had family members listen & they confirmed). But in other cars GC 0w30 doesn't work well.

I say start experimenting with other brands

I run M1 0w40 in my VW GTI 1.8T. I have run it for as many as 6350 miles. My VW's engine sounds exactly the same throughout the OCI.

Wow. I have a 5 liter TPI Chev V8 in the Camaro, and it runs and sounds great on M1 TSUV. No wierd noises at all, other than the normal clatter of the fuel injector solenoids. No valve noise at startup either. I guess she's being lubed good enough.

have run M1-Ams & GC in my tappet(non-hydro) noisy Suzuki Swift and have never heard any difference between any of the oils. 10,000miles each on 5 changes and 15,000miles on the one M1-EP run. All 6 have passed the sample test great!! M1 0-30 is in it today and it also is doing fine.

my brother has run Mobil 1 10-30 with a AC Delco filter in his 2001 Trans AM (LS1 engine). One thing I've noticed about that motor in general is the Valve train is VERY NOISY. I can hear valve chatter and stuff sitting in the garage and he's at the bottom of the driveway pulling out! He says after he changes the oil the noise gets much better but after a while the noise comes back. I need to ask him how long it actually quiets down for after an oil change. I told him to run a P1 and Rotella 15-40 this last change at 60K miles. So I need to listen to it see how loud it is now.

The M1 0w30 has been discontinued from most retail stores... It was sold as both the Tri-Syn and SuperSyn formulas, labeled as "Fuel economy blend" something or other.. That was back when the 5w-30 was labeled as "for newever vehicles", 0w-40 "european blend", etc etc...

Now all M1 varieties just list the viscosity on the front of the bottle, 0w-30 is seemingly nowhere to be found after the introduction of the 0w-20, and then the switch from that to 5w-20.

Both the 0W-20 and 0W-30 are in production.

The disruptions caused by Hurrican Katrina last year and getting the upgrade to the Beaumont, Texas polyalphaolefin production fully operational caused some product shortages.
