how long for a honeymoon?

@ Chris:

have a backup plan ready before you take off on vacation.

It's better to have a safety net on standby than being "surprised" when return from honeymoon trip.

Good luck.

Congrats! To some extent Id say that it is a great thing to enjoy your honeymoon WHEN you get married. So Id tell the boss to shove it and do what really matters, which is enjoying life with the wife.

That said, only you know your employment situation and what your boss will take. Plenty of folks never did a honeymoon, or put it off for some time.

Congrats to you! Hope you two have a wonderful wedding!

It sounds like your boss really takes advantage of you and your loyalty. I would certainly suggest looking at your options.

I'm the guy that gets called when the alarm goes off @ 2am and I'm the guy that camps out at the shop till morning when we can get the broken window or door the thief's broke fixed.
He takes 3 and 4 day weekends about once a month.
I discussed my plans with him and the GF and since February is our slowest month all 3 of us agreed to this date.
My girlfriend hates my job.
The guy he had in mind to cover for me can't do it.
Sorry but the plans are made and the $700 non refundable tickets are bought. I gave plenty of notice.
He's just going to have to deal with things till I get back. I do it when he's gone and I survive

Chris,
congrats to you and your sweetheart.
many happy moons/springs/years together.

warning: since you've been there for so long, i'm not sure if they even give you a "thank you" (monetary, days off or at least a sincere handshake) for all your efforts for a business which isn't yours, but it seems like they are kind of expecting this extra effort from you without much from their part.
i would have an extra "backup option" at return, just in case.
but first, make your honey happy and be with her. DO NOT TAKE WORK PHONE CALLS!!!

(BITOG)and make us happy and report the MPG, driving feeling and oil used of whatever you will be driving...

It sounds like you have, if nothing else, some leverage here and are handling it the way I would.

Employers will come and go, but your wife and your family are there for life.

I agree with everything on here. Of course be prudent when expenditures are concerned always. Nothing wrong with taking a shorter HM now and another one later in the year

+1000 to ***DO NOT TAKE WORK PHONE CALLS***

This is your (yours and hers) time, you scheduled for it, you notified for it. Let it be your focus.

Your length of service, lack of holidays/sick days should have already proved your loyalty to the company...IMO if the 'boss' (and I use the term loosely) has a problem, you really need to listen to the soon-to-be wife and consider handing in a different kind of 8 week notice. You are take for granted where you are at.

^ yeah, if *nothing* else, I would start having a look around to see just what you could land if you grew tired of your current employment situation.

This was our approach, not because we were broke, but because oilBabe was still trying to find a local school district to hire her and I had a house to sell.

So we got married on Sunday after church in a small ceremony which started at 2pm and ceremony and reception done by 4pm.

Spent Sunday and Monday night at a B&B about two hours away and I was back to work on Wednesday.

For our 5th anniversary, we spent 3 weeks in Italy!

It was the trip of a lifetime.

Sometimes, a little bit of delayed gratification works wonders...

At first I was thinking "don't upset your boss" but a good mechanic is worth their weight in gold. So go on your trip and forget about everything in Apple Valley. Your boss will be glad to have you back whenever you return. And if not, you could probably land a new gig in a week.

My Honeymoon was a long weekend because my wife had been in her job less than a year and her manager told her she was 2 weeks short from acquiring her first week vacation.

The guy was a complete tool....15 months later he got demoted back to rank & file....gee too bad.
