We all know that when added to fuel it keeps it fresh for a year, or so they say. But what about the additive itself? I have a bottle thats about 5 years old, think it will still be a viable additive?

Same here - I plan on tossing it and getting fresh stuff every couple of years. I believe I posted this same question a while back, and the replies were mixed.

What Is The Shelf Life Of STA-BIL® Fuel Stabilizer?
The shelf life of all STA-BIL® brand products is 2 years after the bottle has been opened, provided it has been tightly capped and stored in a cool, dry place. If the product has not yet been opened, you should use the color of the fluid as an indicator. If the product is still bright red, it is fine to use. If the product has turned to a very dark red (or brown) color, we recommend purchasing a new bottle. It will not harm anything if you use an old bottle of STA-BIL® brand, it just may not be as effective.

I've had stabil for 4-5 yrs and it still worked fine. It has to as one only uses to in the winter and on small engines with small tanks.

Same here, and Texas heat & humidity will kill most additives quickly. I have never had Sta-Bil "go bad"

im not even really sure if stabil does anything but drain the wallet. best bet is to drain the fuel system.
