Fuel stabilizers

Some people will run a bit of 50:1 mix through before draining and storage.
I learned about this from guys with vintage motorcycles. That's what they use to store them.
Since I keep a bottle of 50:1 mixed up for the Sthil line trimmer, that's what I did. Put a bit in the tank and ran it with a light load until it was warm. Drained the tank & carb, then blew the lines out. I can see slight colour in the primer bulb, so it has left a film.
I'll pack it away now and see how it fires up next time (which with our power grid could be any time between a month and a couple of years.

I had this thought tonight. The Generator is sitting there drained, blown clear and ready to put away. It'd take me no more than 10 minutes to pour some 50:1 in there, run it for a few minutes and drain the rest back into the bottle. I keep a bottle of 50:1 hanging about for the Sthil line trimmer, so it wouldn't be really onerous.

Given I don't leave things really fueled up and the fuel lives in a sealed container for less than a year, perhaps stabiliser isn't actually warranted. I might try a bit of 2 stroke oil with a stronger dose just prior to storage.

I recently changed to Amsoil Saber 2 stroke oil for all my 2 stroke gear, which seems considerably more tenacious than the Penrite oil I was using before. Let's see how that goes.
Put some in the tank and splash it around to coat the insides.

For my OPE stuff that is carb(except the mowers) I use non ethanol and a weak mix of VP 2 stroke oil. I don't drain them when storing over the winter and they all fire right up come spring, have not had any issues with primer balls or fuel lines drying up.
For the mowers, I run E10 fuel in them(they burn to much to use E0) and still add a little 2 stroke oil, I dont drain the tanks or carbs for winter storage and the both have always fired right up come spring.
