Fuel stabilizers

Some people will run a bit of 50:1 mix through before draining and storage.
I learned about this from guys with vintage motorcycles. That's what they use to store them.
Since I keep a bottle of 50:1 mixed up for the Sthil line trimmer, that's what I did. Put a bit in the tank and ran it with a light load until it was warm. Drained the tank & carb, then blew the lines out. I can see slight colour in the primer bulb, so it has left a film.
I'll pack it away now and see how it fires up next time (which with our power grid could be any time between a month and a couple of years.

I had this thought tonight. The Generator is sitting there drained, blown clear and ready to put away. It'd take me no more than 10 minutes to pour some 50:1 in there, run it for a few minutes and drain the rest back into the bottle. I keep a bottle of 50:1 hanging about for the Sthil line trimmer, so it wouldn't be really onerous.

Given I don't leave things really fueled up and the fuel lives in a sealed container for less than a year, perhaps stabiliser isn't actually warranted. I might try a bit of 2 stroke oil with a stronger dose just prior to storage.

I recently changed to Amsoil Saber 2 stroke oil for all my 2 stroke gear, which seems considerably more tenacious than the Penrite oil I was using before. Let's see how that goes.
Put some in the tank and splash it around to coat the insides.

For my OPE stuff that is carb(except the mowers) I use non ethanol and a weak mix of VP 2 stroke oil. I don't drain them when storing over the winter and they all fire right up come spring, have not had any issues with primer balls or fuel lines drying up.
For the mowers, I run E10 fuel in them(they burn to much to use E0) and still add a little 2 stroke oil, I dont drain the tanks or carbs for winter storage and the both have always fired right up come spring.

Im on about my 27th year of running non-ethanol pure gas with a mix of Marvel Mystery Oil AND Sta-bil in 99.99% EVERY tank of gas my 1997 Harley has ever had in her! I purchased bike new in 97. I started doing this gas mix in every tank about the time the bike turned a year old and I changed the carb to a S&S Super.

I also for the last 27 years store that bike over winter with that mix in the gas tank as full to the top as I can get it.
27 years of doing this I still have a new looking tank when I inspect the inside with a flash light.

The same 27 year S&S carb without a rebuild and the Petcock ( Gas turnoff rubber o-rings stays slick as glass from the Marvel ).
I get the benefit of top end lube and rubber o-ring carb parts lube and protection from the Marvel and gas shelf life from the Sta-bil and some cleaning benefit too as well as less gum.

I use the same mix in my old lawn mowers, all 21+ years old now and on the same never rebuilt carb!
I contacted both Marvel and Sta-bil, was told no issue mixing both!

Worked so well I now use my mix in my new 2023 and the wife 2019 ( both no cat ) Harley,
I noticed as soon as I added the gas the Harley fuel pump has less noise!

Marvel Mystery, Sta-bil both good stuff but try them together and you have GREAT STUFF and perhaps you too can go 30 years with no fuel related or tank rust issues!
