How long does PYB clean?

At the suggestion of this forum, my last OCI was with Pennzoil Conventional 5w30, for my new Dodge 4.7 with 190,000 miles.
It is a new (used) truck to me.

Question : how long do I leave this oil in? It has about 500 miles on it so far.

Not sure. This forum told me to use it as a first time OCI.

It's motor oil, not a cleaning solvent. Leave it in the full OCI.

According to Pennzoil's own website, you are using their least capable oil for doing what you want to do.

Just use their oils for normal OCI and call it a day, unless you have documented evidence of substantial build up.

I read a bit of BITOG and see tons more claims of its cleaning ability and much less evidence.

For cleaning, usually a fully synthetic oil works better. It takes many 5k or 10k OCIs to see a good result.

IMO...Just run the Pennzoil conventional for 5-6K dump along with the filter and repeat....Pennzoil conventional, as claimed by Pennzoil and some posters, is a very stout cleaning oil. If you have a nice stash of Pennzoil conventional your truck will love it for it's oil changes.

Pennzoil Conventional is fine for cleaning and a good oil overall.

You can run it for the 5000 if you want. How you drive really determines when to change it. Short trips = shorter oil change interval.

My sons 2003 Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8 V6 runs well on Pennzoil Conventional and also QS Defy. Currently using Defy and am very impressed on how smooth the car is running.

Probably want to play it safe at 5,000 without a used oil analysis. A used oil analysis would probably reveal extra TBN remaining but without the analysis your just making educated guesses based off similar used oil analysis and conditions.

Ok then...5000 is the magic number for the OCI.

I have already bought the Pennzoil High Mileage from Kmart for $3.99 a quart for the next OCI.

Do you have reason to suspect that this engine has much in the way of deposits?
Most engines that have had anything like reasonable drain intervals with any oil stay pretty clean.
Yeah, there might be some varnish after 190K, but no real sludge.
If you believe the engine to be sludged, short OCIs with any oil are a possible solution.
If you drain a fresh fill of oil after 3K and it's jet black and nasty, then you may have some cleaning to do.
If not, don't worry.
Use whatever oil you want to use on 5K or so drains and rest well.

PYB will clean as long as you have it in your engine.

If you think you have a problem with your engine, you could shorten up the OCI to 3000 miles for a while.

Otherwise, I'd go the distance with the Pennzoil conventional.

Making it your standard "go to" oil in your Dodge would be a good idea.

It's hard to find any conventional oil that's better.

You need a high detergent oil like Valvoline MaxLife and you need to run 2000 mile OCI's until the engine is clean. That's what I did and it worked great.

You might want to remove the oil filler cap and see how much varnish (IF any) is under the valve cover. That's one area I look for to determine if a vehicle has had regular oil changes.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If you do not find any reason to suspect the need for an engine "cleaning" (rough idling, valve train noise, etc.), then you do not need to worry about PYB's cleaning ability. It is a good 5K oil, so just use it with confidence for this OCI.

From my experience with both oils. The Maxlife will clean a lot better than the Pennzoil conventional. I ran both in my truck and the Pennzoil conventional was still pretty clean after a 5k OCI. In the same OCI with Maxlife my oil was pretty dirty.
