How long do electric car batteries last?

Hilarious - That’s narrative about narrative that does not exist but in your defensive head - weak sauce - on ignore - sick of this kind of nonsense over and over …
Jeff - thanks for being the grownup on this topic …
All I said was that the outcome is wildly different based on use case and the biggest opinions seemed to be held by those with little real world experience. It gets old and it's kind of annoying.

Long enough so that when the battery needs to be replaced, you might as well scrap the car, as its value will be less than the cost of the replacement battery.

More battery degradation info. This EV9 showed 3% degradation at 40,000 miles. I would be curious to see where it falls at 80,000, as my understanding is that battery degradation is not linear, but instead decelerates after an initial drop.

1st years are the worst; Initial 5–10% loss in the first 2 years. Studies show Tesla batteries often retain over 90% capacity beyond 150,000 miles.
Lifespan expectancy: 15–20 years for typical driving (12k–15k miles/year).

It's hard to tell anyone that who's not in the know. All you get is negativity from most people around here.

Yes. It goes way beyond normal skepticism.
I know I've gotten a bit peaky in my responses around here, but I'm just getting tired of the lazy, uninformed negativity to EVs in general. I don't have the time or energy to combat it at this point in my life. There's time where I see stupid responses and I just close the window and ignore the site for a week or two at a time.

I've said many times, I'd love a M3p or a Plaid, my kind of car. There is no 'but' or 'however' here. It would suit my needs well, I love the way they drive, the feel, the power. I have a really nice F150 for those long road trips with the tractor in tow up to my TN property, the right tool for the job (range related). For a hour long spirited drive to the airport to go fly my plane, or for the TN mountain roads, a righteous EV would be fantastic.

Heck, I could even charge at the hangar while I'm flying. But really there is no need. It's 50 miles of back roads each way.

I'm a driving enthusiast, and truly appreciate the performance of a good EV. Kind of hard to beat em.

My only valid gripe remains long distance trips. Been there done that, and again, "the right tool for the job" applies. Drove CO-FL two weeks ago in a Honda Odyssey minivan, 50mph winds, snow, hundreds of miles of desolate secondary roads (no interstates, sparse stations) What a blast.

This is me, ordered a Model 3 Performance and pick it up next week. I’ve driven sports cars all my adult life. The last 4 door car was a 98 4DSC (if anyone gets the reference) and while having only 2door cars is a compromise sometimes I enjoy driving and especially a manual. BUT driving to work sucks with so much traffic that I despise driving lately. So I ordered my first “automatic” and thought it would take till my 60s and not at 51. But the other thing was FSD, impressed with all the videos I’ve watched over the years and with my test drive. Looking forward to work commutes and then hauling butt on the weekends in the backroads. Hopefully will give me the best of both in a daily while I still have other weekend only sports cars.

I tried to test drive an M3P this past weekend. My daughter was bored and she's has never experienced it before, while I've done it twice. The local Tesla dealership had none in stock. I was very surprised. No Plaids either. I think I may rent one on Turo next time we have to travel for a tournament.

My guess is, you will come to love your M3P. How ya gonna charge?
One thing; tires don't last.
At home. My commute is small that I should be able to get by with Level 1 but will be calling an electrician since unfortunately my subpanel is about maxed out so a long across the house run will be necessary to give me Level 2.

I think so, funny thing is I’ve not driven one, just the Premium AWD. So have the extra juice is going to be fun. And tires, yes I’m already expecting it. Reminds me of my 300ZXTT days…..new set of rears about twice a year and fronts once a year. LOL man I used to burn up tires back in the day. Will see how the 20s do….crazy to think such large wheel and might look for a set of 18ins to run for milage and come actual rubber cushion. I’m used to running 16in on everything, my 2000 S2000 and 1987 Carrera both run the same size 16in wheels. Lol

The Model 3 Performance is so much quicker than the vast majority of vehicles on the road that I doubt you'll find yourself using the full acceleration very often. It's literally supercar fast. I haven't driven the refresh, but even the prior model was uncomfortably fast and the new one is even quicker. My wife's I-Pace ran did 60 in around 4.4 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.6. You couldn't punch it without warning passengers. The M3P is under 3s to 60 and 11s 1/4 mile. That's stupid quick for a daily driver.

... uncomfortably fast...
I never thought I'd agree with this combination of words, as a matter of principle, but I have to sign with both hands on that one. The exhilaration is of course still there, but the "uncomfortable" is on the physical side.

I still remember some French guy was trying to beat dragster records in the 90s (forgot the numbers, but it was maybe a 0-60 in a second and some crazy stuff done in 4 seconds) - he had a medical team waiting as during the whole few seconds of acceleration his heart would technically stop beating - couldn't pump against the G-forces.

We're not there yet, but I can't see myself doing a 3.5s 0-60 with grandma in the right seat. Unless it's medically recommended, who knows.

I test drove the Premium AWD and playing around with some launching and just quick punches…..my neck was sore that evening and the next day. LOL. I’m going to be building some neck muscles!
