Might see a nice little unicorn. 1992 Eldorado, priced like it's stolen (but it is not,) needs a battery and starter.

If I know how to do it, I just might have a third car.

How hard is it to change NON-NORTHSTAR (1992) Eldorado starter, maybe it has a 4.9?

Can I do it with ramps and my ratchet in the street? Or, call a tow? ..

Seller says:

Starter is half way installed not bolted up bought a new car just want it off the street

It ran fine hot starter

What do you think?

I am *seeking* to ascertain what he wants for it. He keeps sayign scrap wants to give him $600. Ad says he has no time and would hate to see it go to scrap yard.

This *could* be a "they are having an emergency scenario" good find. The spelling is bad, and, sometimes, when people call the scrap guys.. They aren't thinking top-dollar money, they are just thinking "Want it gone NOW, come get it and pay me SOMETHING." And the Craigslist listing is a "hail mary" for more money. Worked for a friend's car.

Waiting to hear back, this could be a smooth rider. He says no issues, "starter partially installed but not bolted up, hot starter" (I take this to mean starter got hot, heard same from Cadillac owners.)

My mechanic friend says it probably has a 4.9 and is thinking we can go there tomorrow, bolt up starter, and drive it away. Sounds good to me. (After buying it. Lol.)

Waiting to hear back, must see if this seller flaked out. I asked him a few times how much he needs, as his ad was unclear. No answer yet.

It's 10:30 at night

If he doesnt get back to me tomorrow then he sold it. Maybe he is just asleep.

Really not sure why he mentioned scrap price.. He wants more than $600, but how much does he want?? I hate when sellers don't communicate. Still not sure what he made of me mentioning his $600 figure.

I told him I was unclear and asked him how much he needs.

worst car??? I dont think so i think they are nice and if you understand them which most dont they are great!
I dont know about the starter it could be anything but if it is the starter than that is simple ... as for scrap $600.00 sounds like a lot here in nj you will get 300 or so for that car.
I have a 95 in showroom condition with the northstar... Some of them were really good some had problems but being in the engine business i happen to like the northstar lots of power and ok on gas

Sounds sketchy I wouldn't pay 100 dollars over scrap. That way if its screwed you didn't lose much and can part it out.

People who have little experience with these will tell you to run away from it. I've owned two Cadillacs (both with Northstars) and they were good cars. One was a '97 Seville, which was the same as a '92 Eldo. Nice cars...anything that old will need some TLC. The 4.9L was a good engine...just a little unconventional. Iron heads on an aluminum block as I recall.
