I was advised by someone who knows about oil to go with Renewable Lube's BIOSYN 10w30. This is the oil that I may go with for my 2.5 4 cyl. Nissan. Has anyone had any success with this motor oil? Has anyone used this motor oil? I am a little leary about using it, but I am willing to try with a little positive feedback. The only information that I can find on here is for the 0w20 and the 5w40. Does anyone have anything on the 5w30 or 10w30?

We don't know yet. Only one grade has been used in only one type of car and driving condition. Simply not enough data across a wide ray of conditions to really make any conclusions so far. The 5w30 has a Noack of 11.6% which means it's probably grp III based.

I'm starting a test of the 10w30 from RLI and will have some Terry Dyson numbers as the miles add up. The oil is veggie and non petro ester based. If there is an GIII it's only in the add pac's. The car is a turbo Volvo that sees some of the worst rush hour traffic in S California at 350 miles a week starting with 180k miles on the clock. We will have a uoa before and a couple of more during. The car is well maintained and in good shape. The driving conditions make the 45 mile one way commute take from just over 30 minutes (at a bit above the speed limit) to 2 hours ( a bit below). The car has had a steady diet of Red Line 5w30 and the amount of oil burned between oil change intervals can be seen as a very small movement on the dip stick but nothing that would cause me to top it off. From what I'm learning from the folks at RLI I'm looking forward to some interesting results.

Actually I think it's the other way around. Molekule has stated most of these types of oils contain either PAO and or Grp III. The HOBS part is 30% according to Terry and RLI.

Yeah, I think i $crewed that up. I'm going to ask Bill G.(the formulator and designer) for some info to publish on RLI engine oil. He will be back from a trip next Monday. I would like to get more than a clip for a web site without getting into any secrets, you know, something that our members would find interesting. We want more than brand X fights sludge with the girblezitch additive package fortified with Z99 that clings to engine parts and fights heat and friction like nothing else.

Someone please PM me with their website!! I have tried googleing Biosyn,RLI,RLI+Biosyn,RLI+5W40 etc......... and have had no luck finding anything directly related to their products or where to purchase them.Surely they must have a site or someone must sell the stuf????

Actually Buster, Molakule stated in this particular thread, http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/s...true#Post894968 ,

Most renewable lubes are currently mixed or blended with group IV and V synthetics, due to the high cost of refined HOBS fluids; so until the cost drop significantly, this will continue to be the case. But the biodegradeability will still be high.

These oils would not or should not necessarily contain any signifcant amount of mineral oil.
An additive package may have a "process oil" additive carrier that is composed of a very very small amount of Group I or II oil. But I suspect (guess) the RLI formulation(s) is majority Group IV and V. Many HOBS fluids are themselves esters and some non-ester HOBS fluids are fatty-acid fluids that promote Friction Reduction.

Regards,

My results running 5W-40 Biosyn in a high reving high horsepower Audi V8 engine have been nothing short of incredible. Measured iron wear from UOA has decreased by 3 to 1. Fuel dilution has decreased by 2 to 1. Oil life has increased by 2 to 1.

Terry has been testing the 5w30 in his 302 hot rod and the 0W-20 in has family car, and reports excellent results.

I've been running the 5W-40 and the 10W-40 blends with excellent results. In my engine, I saw 3/4 Qt of oil consumption in 5000 miles on my 1st change, and 1/2 Qt of consumption on my 2nd 5K change. At this point, with 1.5K miles on the 10W-40, I'm seeing no appreciable oil consumption. I just looked at the dipstick today, and the oil looks just like it did when new, still the same clear dark color it has from the bottle, which makes reading the oil level difficult.

HRD, thank you for clarifying. That is what I get for being lazy and not re-reading what he wrote.

RI, looks like the oil is starting to "seat" which I've read can take several thousand miles. Sometimes when switching oils, consumption goes up for awhile until the new oil is fully situated in the engine. That is good news. Thanks for the update.

I plan to try the RLI 10W30 BioSyn in at least one of my vehicles (G35) soon. I'm just not sure whether to switch on my next OC, or use up some more of my GC stash.

INDYMAC, sell the GC to someone with a BMW. Those cars need it a lot more than you do anyway.

I called Terry to express interest in RLI's stuff after reading the RS4 story. He advised me to try their 10w30 once I get through my stash of Motul (it was free). I'll be selling my last few quarts of GC and buying the BioSyn soon.

this renewable stuff. is this recycled used oil? what is this product? on lube control email i got said their new fp60 plus is a renewable product. i don't understand.
