How fast can you type?

I got 62 with one error. I took 2 typing classes in highschool. One on a computer the other class was with a old fashion style typewriter.

I always type slowly, because it's well known that many people can't read very fast.

Really? I think it is more realistic. I type about that fast when am typing everyday. But when I am trying to copy for one of the "copy this paragraph verbatim" I suck at it and have way too many errors.

30wpm, pushing it, with no error checking (ie many errors).
20wpm is more realistic since I try to make my sentences legible.

I used to go as fast as 90wpm. Now most of my work typing is no longer than two sentences. The last time I tested myself it was only about 64.

I type in 'chunks' when copying.
This format was not easy for me to remember phrases, and find where I left off.
This sucked up my time.

That's an awful typing test.

I got 60WPM, but I have been timed as fast as 90 WPM under other tests.

I give alot of typing tests to clients during assessments. I would never give one like this. The usual test is 211 words that are in complete sentences with punctuation. Tests are then timed, errors are calculated as any errant keystroke, and an accuracy rating is given.

I did poorly. I wouldn't pat yourselves on the back too much with a high number here. Take that out to 5 or 10 minute writing and stop counting at the 5th error. That was the standard format when I was taught.

By the 4th minute I was pecking out one character per second. That level of at-tension did not work well with me. The girls in the class could keep zipping along at a "steady state", but I definitely operated on a declining curve.

Manual typewriter:

1 minute writing - 65
3 minute writing - 50
5 minute writing - 35
10 minute writing - 25 (5th error stops counting)

I got 58 but was speeding up as I got used to the random word format and the concept of typing words from a source other than my mind - something I haven't done much since high school - so I tried again to get a more accurate rating. I got 56.
