How Do You Store 2 Cycle Equipment ?

My Echo weed wacker is 10-12 years old and I store it with Sta-Bil in the last tank of the year. Also we only have e-10 fuel here and have never had a problem.

Consider a trash bag around the engine with some moth balls tossed in to keep away the mice. The trash bag will keep the moth ball chemical concentrated around the engine.

Somebody, somewhere has regretted starting up the riding mower with a bag around the engine...

This is about 2 cycle OPE. If you miss a trash bag around the engine of a weed whacker or chain saw or backpack blower you should buy electric ones. The trash bag is not to keep the mice out per say, but to keep the fumes of the moth balls in.

Aren't you in a sense doing the exact same thing as fogging or am I missing something?

I too have had my best luck/success with my OPE, keeping the gas tanks full over the long storage period. With my stored car too!

When I fill my small 2.5gal plastic gas can, I mix both Sta-MMO @ 1oz/each

Where I have had even better success is by using Sta-Bil along with MMO(both at the same doseage of 4oz/10gal). So yes, my 20 gal Firebird FORMULA V8 gets 16 oz of Sta-Bil/MMO.

My enging starting after sitting for > 6-7 months, is "FANTASTIC" in my OPE and my V8 4bbl(better than just a full tank of gas). And, with the OPE, way better than when I drained the fuel.

I keep non-ethanol gas with fuel stabilizer in all my stuff. I leave them over the winter with fuel in them.
Don't get all excited and drain stuff and what not.
Now, if you insist on using gasahol in your OPE, then you need to drain it, run it dry, take out the plug and oil it up, and possibly make a sarcophagus for it.
Otherwise, you can use non-ethanol gas and a stabilizer and just set them aside the last time you use them.

I have not had good luck with Stabil. I tried it several times. I use Sea Foam at the recommemded dose and have had 0 problems. All we can get is E10 gas unless you go to the marina and pay about .80 more a gallon. I just started a two stroke atv that sat for over a year and 1/2 with E10 and sea foam(not premixed, oil injection). Started right up and ran fine on the old gas all weekend. I will swear by Seafoam.

I would pay .80 more per gallon for E0 gas. I might use a total of 5 gallons of gas in non highway engines. Thats $4.00. Well worth it to me. Might still use premix in some of the 2 cycle OPE because of the octane needed or recommended for things like backpack blowers, etc. High RPM engines.

If you're going to store long term use non ethanol fuel mixed with Stihl Ultra (the oil has stabilizer in it!) then run it out of fuel, you'll never get it all out unless you dissasemble the carb and fuel system.Short term let's say it's a blower and your up north start it once a week and blow the snow off the walks!Fuel lines and primer bulbs start rotting from the inside where the fuel is where you can't see it and you push the primer and flush all the junk into the carb
I have an 18 year old Stihl chainsaw that has original gas lines and I've just had to replace the carb diagram last year

I toss it in the corner and worry about it next spring... All I use is E10, sometimes with Sta-bil, it's always started...

I've never really done anything special to my 2 stroke stuff.... Just put it away in the winter and take it out in the summer. The carbs and such have been the least of my worries....

Got almost 15 years on a Homelite leaf blower that way - the carb wasn't the issue but the fact I couldn't find any fuel line that would fit the tank and not leak like a sieve where it exits the tank.

Had a 10 year old Homelite weed whacker that the only reason I got rid of it was because it was getting cranky to start and the fuel line issue.

Going on 4 years with a Homelite blower (see a trend here?

) that has nothing special done to it. I think the gas I just finished was more varnish than gas (smelled nasty but burned fine) - it may have been 2+ years old.

Heck, on this one I ran low on the "gas" and there's about a 1/2 tank of homebrew - healthy dose of MMO, healthy dose of 15w40 Rotella and some regular gas. I think I may treat it to a can of TruFuel for the leaf blowing season and some fresh gas next year. It's the only 2 stroke I've got so even a gallon goes a long way.
