How do you determine PAO content when examining MSDS?

For example, I'm looking at the Mobil 1™ ESP X2 0W-20 SDS ( https://sds.exxonmobil.com/Download.aspx?ID=962490&docFormat=PDF ). I've searched the web for DECENE, HOMOPOLYMER HYDROGENATED and I see that it is, indeed, a PAO.

Some of you are pretty sharp at reading the MSDS and spotting the PAO content. Surely there are other PAO ingredients to motor oils (aren't there?), so how does one recognize this feature of any given oil?

On a side note, *I* find it interesting that this oil carries all of these approvals (MB-Approval 229.71, Porsche C20, STJLR.03.5006, STJLR.51.5122, VW 508 00, VW 509 00), and yet is only 20 - < 30% PAO. Is that right or am I misinterpreting the MSDS?

Thank you,
Ed

Decene is PAO … C18-50 is GTL … nice brew

Why? Who says PAO is required to meet any of those approvals?

Certainly not required but some PAO content helps to meet those approvals. As far as I remember Shell is getting away without PAO as their GTL base is suffcient to fulfill the VW 508 00 etc requirements. PAO still provides advantages over HC in oxidation and evaporation.
