How come the 350 chevy is still made?

I guess they don't put them in automobiles anymore, but I'm surprised the epa hasn't made them stop production. Aren't they told to stop making them after a while? I know they're still heavily used in boats and such, so there is still a demand for them.

The emission limits for boats are not as strict as cars. Does the "demand" only exist because boat system manufacturers aren't motivated to convert to a more modern engine?

I don't even think you can get a brand new 5.9 cummins already. They've put millions of these 350s in boats for decades, so I'd imagine the demand is still there. I don't think the newer LS series will just bolt right up either.

Cheap and plentiful. And they go into an emissions exempt chassis.

But the LS is becoming the New Gen 1 and replacing it.

Hey, you can still buy a complete fresh Big Block 502 from the Chevy parts counter 500HP and 580 lb-ft torque

Who makes them? I had no idea the Chevy 350 small block is still in production.
Chevy performance still makes them on their website. Plenty of builders remanufacture them too. I believe even the old weaker but still great 2 bolt main ones get rebuilt as a lower output more budget option with warnings to not mod it much.

You must not be into classic cars :) The small block Chevy (and big block too) is alive and well! Every classic car project that needs a new engine has to get them from somewhere! Good, used blocks to be rebuilt are getting harder and harder to find...buying new is much easier these days.

There are hundreds of websites selling small block chevys of various displacements and performance levels. GM even sells a number of them. They were used in a variety of applications all the way until 1997 when the Gen-III LS engines took over. The SBC market will be alive and well for a long time into the future.

The aftermarket still supports these engines very well and will continue to do so.

I would never get an engine or trans from one of those outfits, that do more to ruin the parts than anything.
And most all of them will do what they can to weasel out of the warranty if there is one.

I assume if they are still being put in boats it is down-market stuff, as most of the $$$ inboards are using LSx based engines nowadays.
