While impressed with all the reports so far, you my friend, are my hero.

I'm going to read these to my wife now.

55 during the day and night, and 65 or so when we're about. We use a small ceramic heater in our room to keep us comfortable throughout the night.

In our small condo, bills are usually around $120/month for gas AND electric. I don't think that's too bad.

This time of year, 70-74° during the day when someone's in
69-65° at night.

My house was built during Reaganomics, its insulation reflects that.
Gotta redo seals on exterior doors, the blinds dance a bit.

Being in college with 3 roommates the thermostat is a WWIII area. I'm gonna put one of those lock boxes over it

Anytime I walk by it I set it on about 68 during the day, 65 at night.

Nice thing is with 3 other roommates, the heating bill (well, all bills) are divided by 4!

Ammo from us to use on the wife? I've never been married but even I know that's not going to end well for you...

But to answer your question, I prefer cool year-round within reason. Summer I keep the house at 79 during the day, 76 at night. I absolutely refuse to turn on the furnace before October 1, unless the temps approach 60 degrees inside, and I came close this year but still managed to make it into October. Winter I keep the house at 68 during the day and 65 at night -- and during the day my usual attire is still shorts and a t-shirt.

We use a programmable thermostat. Prior to having kids, it was 65 when we were home and awake and 58 when we were gone or asleep. Amazing how comfortable that can be with goose down comforters and flannel sheets...

With infants, we were advised that 70 was the preferred setting since what goes in the crib is so restrictive these days. As our kids are getting older, we are dropping back down every year. Presently at 67 during times we are home and awake and setback to 63 at night (58 during the weekday when we aren't home). Planning on dropping a degree at the new year.

Wife and I have a mutual agreement - no touching the thermostat once we set it. Wear warmer clothes or get a blanket first!

When we had no money in NY, we had a crummy apartment with no insulation that we would keep the heat at 55 degrees.

We froze.

My blood has thinned out quite a bit down here in Texas, we keep the house at about 70 degrees year round.

Actually my AC is running right now, it was 76 degrees in the house with the windows open, a little too warm.

My electric bill last month was $48.

I keep it from 19 at night to 20 in the day and 21 in the evening. All rooms are within half a degree. spent allot of time making that possible. Also keep it around 45 percent humidity.

My house is 69 during the summer and 69 during the winter. My electric/gas bill averages $150/month. I don't see the need to suffer lol. When I come in from working outside all day i either like it cool or nice and warm. We set it to 60 in the winter or 78 in the summer when were gone. I have a programmable thermostat but the saving I had wasn't all that great.

I keep our thermostat at 68 day and 63 night during winter, 76 summer. House is 41 years old, but well insulated, plus six dogs add their own contribution in body heat. Natural gas heat and water heater bill for coldest months 160-180 dollars, depending on gas prices. summer electric about 140 in July and August. Furnace is original forced air, air conditioner replaced before we moved in fall of 1993. As long as they work as designed, I'll keep them running.

During the summer when it's 110-115 outside the A/C is set to 73 degrees. Right now the heat is set at 72 at night.

Still using the A/C this time of year but click on the heat at night.

You made my day GreeCguy. Thanks for the fun and efficient story telling.
I would not disagree with the wife...you will have a long and happy marriage.

We don't have the furnace on April-October. Once November hits we fire it up and keep the house at 68° during the day (someone is always home) and 62° at night.

North of Seattle doesn't require the use of A/C in the summer.

Money frittered away on utilities is never recouped and are therefore expenses I detest.
My cars' heaters get a fair workout as those hydrocarbons have already been consumed for propulsion.

I light our pilot around Halloween each year. Have yet to actually turn on the furnace though.

The way I see it the Power bill is the only money I spend each month that keep me comfortable.. Spending money on that doesn't hurt my feelings a bit. I keep my house around 67.
