You buy gasoline for about $3 a gallon, or about $9 for 12 quarts. Your cheap oil is still twice the price of gasoline.
Both are made from oil that costs about $60 a 42 gallon "barrel" or a buck and a half a gallon, or about 40 cents a quart.

The cost doesn't make it junk oil.

I just cant get past the cost. I'm all for a good value but I don't want to ruin an engine by being too cheap.

Chevron Supreme is top notch oil and most weights are ss and at Wal-Mart its not much more
than what your paying for this. You won't have trouble sleeping using Chevron!

It maybe Chevron. The mentioned blender is based in California and is a Chevron distributor.
the salesman says it is Chevron oil. I didn't believe him.

Since it is API SN it is no better or worse then any other API oil at any cost.

Ill agree its cheap and can understand the hesitation but it gives everyone a true idea of what it costs to market oil, this oil cost no more or less then any other oil to produce and bottle, but the rest is profits for the name brands.

We are being hosed! Name brand oil is $7/qt @ pep boys!

Why not? If you have the money you can buy Chevron base oils and additive packages and blend them yourself. It may not equal Chevron Supreme or Havoline but it will be close.

Why would he do that? This oil is cheaper and delivered right to his shop.

So no, it isn't Chevron, they distribute Chevron along with other brands, but they blend their own oils.

It's legit as per the API. https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsProductResults?accountId=-1&brandName=car lube plus

Here is the PDS on it. (They private label this oil under different names as well)

Cheesy label. But, if it works and holds the specs. It's just oil. Did I just say that? Ok, OCD back again!

Thanks for posting Chris142! Imagine the profit in petroleum!

Chevron is the first oil manufacturer they list. I also noted the blue quart bottles on their website. I've always admired the Chevron symbol since I was a child. Weird I know.

I and many others here were buying Quaker State cast offs from AAP clearance last November for 28c per quart. I didn't see anyone complaining that because it was so cheap....it must be bad.

Another thing to consider. If they clear the stuff out that cheap.....what's their real cost compared to typical retailer prices?

Why would it be re-refined? Re-refined base oil is just as expensive as refined crude.

I didn't realize this. Doesn't make much sense as it seems the process of decontamination and additive pack restoration would cut out a few steps from refining from crude.

When people are recommending to stay with a "bigger brand name" oil like SuperTech instead

The bottle blurb doesn't seem so bad, they clearly mention viscosity index, mineral and synthetic oil blend as well as detergency, oxidative thickening etc etc. Well-written unlike fly-by-night City Star tier oils which would never take the time to write a sensible blurb, rather than clever and misleading verbiage. Plus the certs and data already posted, I could easily give this oil the benefit of the doubt.
