Hi all!
As title says, how are carquest new alternators?
Earlier weird mouse from Pulley area.98 Buick LeSabre still original alternator.sonds kinda like alternator bearing going bad.weird winde noise. Alternator is 24 years old
Can get new ac Delco $119 ebay.4 days shipped free.but I like advance auto.and wondering if Their new alternators are good? Or Chinese crap.

This is strictly anecdotal and I’m not knowledgeable enough to test much, but the previous owner of my 85 K5 put in a new Carquest alternator in 2016. It’s still going strong today.

How many miles on your 98? My 99 has just a tad over 92,000 and alternator is still running fingers crossed. Also, have you thought about having your current alternator rebuilt by a local shop as an alternative to rolling the dice on a new one of questionable quality? It’s my understanding that Carquest is owned by advance auto, but I’m not sure if all of their parts supply vendors are now the same?

148,880 miles.uts making that weird groan noise .bearing in it shot
Ac Delco eBay,card new . $119
Carquest new $229

My biggest concern with this type of replacement is warranty and how far I have to drive if it breaks so that would eliminate Ebay or anywhere online for me. I put in a life time alternator from Auto Zone in my Sierra about 6 years ago with no issues.

You may pay more for life time but if you plan on keeping the car for a while it's worth it the way aftermarket parts seem to fail.

If you are going to buy a new one, buy it locally to make it easy to return. My local NAPA gave me a another rebuilt one when I brought in my defective 11 year old one, along with my receipt.

Agree with above. I like to shop online as much as the next person, but things like alternators, I’ll pay more in order to have a local warranty.

Try finding a parts store which is established and deals with garages. Those are the guys who know the difference between garbage, barely passable and good goods. I'm blessed with an iconic speed shop turned Advance and an old, real good NAPA and a 3rd generation Mecca of a starter/alternator shop.

Connecticut's "yellow fleet" (Lavine's Auto Parts) is the only place he knew to recommend.
They're all over New England. Coincidentally, I've gone to their New Milford location for head work and driveshaft refreshment. One of their machine shops is in Danbury, near you.

Put bearings and brushes in it yourself.
Seriously these are stupid easy to replace bearings in, and probably take a #6203 that costs $2 on ebay.

Worst case you wind up buying a new alternator anyway. Can you live without this car for a day or three?

On a 24yr/old car, all that's going to be available are remanufactured.

Like said, unless you're going to DIY or pay the price for one that's been gone over by a reputable shop, replacements are all going to be hit/miss.

NOT TRUE. New are readily available at many retailers and online. It's a standard case and rotor shaft still made today.

If it's making noise not long.
Yeah loudish weird groaning noises.sliws when I slow down. Louder when I go faster.sounds a grindish metallic noise.
