How about this Moly additive?

Ever hear of Petromoly?

Looks interesting, but is expensive. Consists of Molybdenum Disulfide in a base oil. I talked with someone at Petromoly, but they did not know the ppm of moly. Said they would have to look it up, but it is a lot. He said that the first time you use this stuff it will clean a lot of stuff from the engine. Not sure how moly would do that. Anyway, just thought I would throw it out here for comments.

I have my doubts about this stuff, especially with the "As Seen On TV" emblem in the picture at their website.

I looked at their website and the testimonials given, there are a lot of references to Petromoly motor oils 5w30, etc., but I did not see that listed in the Products area...

From the PetroMoly FAQs:

Q - I noticed it was shiny black in color. Is this normal?

A - Yes, the molybdenum disulfide suspended in the lubricant gives it a silvery black color. It is quite normal, that is what makes this product work better and differently than any other oil product.


Q - How many ounces are in the PetroMoly® Oil Treatment, and how many quarts of oil does it treat?

A - There are 16 ounces(1 pint) in the treatment, and each pint treats 4-8 quarts of oil, so if your crankcase is larger than 4-8 quarts you may need to add more that one bottle to obtain maximum effectiveness. The ideal mixture is one part treatment and nine parts oil, which means a 12.5% mixture.

So it's powdered Moly Disulfide and not the soluble moly.

The only place I would use it is in gear lubes.

They are focusing on the additive as the motor oil is too expensive to ship (so he told me). At about $7 a quart I can see why they aren't marketing it anymore. The motor oil is available at another site: LINK.

But Molakule just wrapped it up. Not much point in continuing this thread. Better to get your moly in Redline or the new SM Maxlife or something like that.
