As part of the de-evolution phase, humans are becoming desensitized to the cost of things. I just wonder what their retirement will look like.
That's not the reason "humans are becoming desensitized to the cost of things". In the US, parents are pretty much paying for every single need and desire of their precious, pretentious children up through their 50's and beyond now. There's been several studies come out in the last 12 months showing that 42%+ of the adults in the US receive, on average, $800+ per month in "assistance" from their parents.
I've actually seen a lot of these parents justify that by saying they are giving their kids their inheiretance early, helping with their grandkids' college education (a whole 'nother problem in itself... ), and more. It's the same as we heard 20 years ago when the "cool" moms were telling everyone that they bought their 10 year old a cell phone "to be able to keep up with them at any time."
As a parent, you can justify anything you want to with regards to what you give your kids. Hand them a $225K wake boat so you can get your pontoon back? I don't care. They just better not wreck into me. Help pay for a house they can't afford? That's ok, too. Someone is going to have to maintain it, they will help empty that trust fund, too.
