Honeywell Defense oil filter - clean threads!

Before I put one of these on my car yesterday, I ran my finger along the threads. It came back totally clean. There were no metal shavings, and not a trace of black residue from thread forming.

Someone is doing a very good job here.

if the threads are rolled and not cut when they make the baseplate then there will be no chips. I don't know what process honeywell/fram uses but it would make sense for them to roll the threads if they don't want to wash the base plates after they are made.

I never find metal shavings in my filters.

I just tried the same thing on a UnionSangyo nippon I have laying around. No residues or shavings. And totally clean thanks to the plastic thingy the filter has over the end.

I washed stuff that looked like iron filings from a Supertech (Wal Mart) filter, probably from the thread area, and have always found Purolators to leave a black reside when I touch the threads.

Some companies seem to do a good job cleaning this part of their filters.
