I need to fill up my ps reservoir but i've only got genuine Honda power steering oil 5w30 API SF. My nissan requires dexron II. Would it be ok to top up with the honda fluid for a few days?

I wouldn't. You could have problems with seal compatibility, which could cause problems within the pump and/or rack, maybe even leaks, too. I'd hike it over to the closest store and get some Dexron III (II is hard to find and has been superceded by III).

How long would it take to degrade the seals and leak? Would this happen gradually over time or instantly?

honda PS fluid is super-special stuff. You can buy ATF, power steering fluid, and honda power steering fluid. The honda stuff has extra anti-foamants and specialized additives. Id stay away from using it elsewhere.

Problems can happen in fairly short order. If the seals begin to swell, you could wind up with rock hard or severely loose steering within a fairly low number of miles. It may not leak externally, but rather destroy the seals inside the rack and lead to big problems. Again, I wouldn't. Dexron III is readily available and cheap. As JHZR2 mentioned, Honda PS fluid is proprietary stuff and isn't recommended for anything besides Honda PS systems. I wouldn't risk it. If you're looking to get rid of it, I'd just donate it to a fellow Honda owner.

Thanks for the replys, will put the rest of that honda ps oil in my crv. Just got some castrol DIII and put that in my nissan, it feels smoother already.
