Honda or Toyota more reliable?

I see just as many Ford and GM products with 300,000 miles on them as I do Hondas and Toyotas.
I see a LOT of F150's and F250's around here with 400,000+
You can thank ISO 9001 (and or other quality management systems) for that.
You must compare cost of ownership in this case to see who came out ahead...

Certain Honda models are both very reliable and very durable and the same is true for certain Toyota cars.
We've owned mainly Hondas for years and have found them to be very satisfactory in daily use.
The same would be said by most long-time Toyota buyers.
Hondas are generally sportier to drive than equivalent Toyotas, but you sure wouldn't think that if the only Honda you've ever owned was a Gen 8 Accord, or is the same vintage Camry even less entertaining?

I prefer the word "dependability", it imbues a much more personal quality to it, like an old dog or good friend.
Statistically Toyota is more reliable than Honda. Consumer Reports says Toyota is consistently #1. It makes sense, anecdotally Honda went further in the turbo, DI and cvt direction. Toyota had more reliable aisin transmissions. Just a more conservative company.
I don’t think I’d ever get another Honda or Toyota vehicle again solely on brand , reputation or perceived history. I found their recent products on par except minivans compared to other offerings across all makes. The gap has really narrowed in the past 10-15 years.

Designs are mostly outdated but hey, it seems to be working for them..so they dont need my opinion. Once you get something right you tend to stick with it for a little while..maybe the other companies are still trying to get it right

can't go wrong with a toyota. 99% of the time it is buy, drive, change oil/brakes/tires as needed. Sell before 300k before things go wrong.
