Honda oil too thin.

Highly likely the oil light has nada to do with the weight of the oil. THis one you may need to break out the manual. I have had excellent results with 0/5-40 in similar equipment.

If you have a heat gun I'd be interested in how hot the engine sump actually is.
Last year I measured my new Ferris with 25hp Briggs and ZT2800 hydros and was surprised how cool they ran.
After an hour running on 90F day they were both in the low 170F range.

I agree with the others who recommend a 50 grade. There's plenty of 15w50 options out there. My only caution would be to let the engine run a few minutes above low idle to get some heat in the oil - which you do anyway IMO, but it's a bit more important with a 50 grade

15w-50 diesel, 5w-40 diesel, or 20w-50 motorcycle oil.

Also monitor oil temps, and increase cooler size if needed.

We upgraded a 25HP kohler to an aux transmission cooler and it solved the problem.

My Hustler with gxv620 has flickering oil light after cutting 2 acres in 100 degree heat. What oil to use?
This is on a zero turn....not a generator.
It is the motor that runs hot with the recommended 30w at outside temps of 100+. Not the hydros.
I just want opinions as to whether I can run higher viscosity oil in agxv620 Honda even though Honda doesn't recommend it.
It has no oil cooler. That 30w gets mighty thin after running several hours in Louisiana heat.

You can run a heavier oil without issue. Personally I recommend a 15w50 of your choosing.

Yes.

The 810cc Briggs commercial turf engine on my Ferris has a forced air oil cooler...I assume yours does as well huh?
