My Hustler with gxv620 has flickering oil light after cutting 2 acres in 100 degree heat. What oil to use?
Me too. User @Cujet has a few good posts on generators being used in this kind of heat. The manual for the LPG version GXV620 recommends against multi-grade oil unless it's quite cold outside. They recommend straight 30 weight. I'd be concerned with using an oil that's too thin on an air-cooled engine run in 100F heat.
This is on a zero turn....not a generator. My Hustler with gxv620 has flickering oil light after cutting 2 acres in 100 degree heat. What oil to use?
You can run a heavier oil without issue. Personally I recommend a 15w50 of your choosing. This is on a zero turn....not a generator.
It is the motor that runs hot with the recommended 30w at outside temps of 100+. Not the hydros.
I just want opinions as to whether I can run higher viscosity oil in agxv620 Honda even though Honda doesn't recommend it.
It has no oil cooler. That 30w gets mighty thin after running several hours in Louisiana heat.
I've got plenty 10w50 and 20w50....all synthetic Castrol motorcycle oil. You think that's ok. After all.....something like Rotella T6 15w40 has the same MA or MA2 rating for motorcycles. You can run a heavier oil without issue. Personally I recommend a 15w50 of your choosing.

Either 50 grade will work well.I've got plenty 10w50 and 20w50....all synthetic Castrol motorcycle oil. You think that's ok. After all.....something like Rotella T6 15w40 has the same MA or MA2 rating for motorcycles.
The 810cc Briggs commercial turf engine on my Ferris has a forced air oil cooler...I assume yours does as well huh?If you have a heat gun I'd be interested in how hot the engine sump actually is.
Last year I measured my new Ferris with 25hp Briggs and ZT2800 hydros and was surprised how cool they ran.
After an hour running on 90F day they were both in the low 170F range.
