Just like many other companies, they can sell any repackaged oil products under their brand name (i.e. Toyota, Honda, etc.) so long as they meet their specific engine/motor oil requirements.

So, here in N.A., this could be something like XOM, SOPUS, Warren Products, etc. Whoever provides the best price/meets their specifications get the contract.

In Japan, most Honda factory oil (bottled/jugs) are Idemitsu (Just like Firestone tires to Ford,Idemitsu has been in partnership in providing factory fill/OEM for domestic Honda servicing for years, if memory serves). There are other domestic suppliers that provides oil to other Japanese car companies such as Nippon oil (Eneos), Nippon Mitsubishi Oil, etc.

In other Asian countries, depending on the local situations, importation regulations, etc. sometimes, bringing in Japanese made OE oil to serve such market makes good sense.

To summarise: just because Honda branded oil in Malaysia is made by Idemitsu doesn't always mean that you shall get Idemitsu from you local HOnda dealership service department in N.A.

Q.

For M/T users if you think MTF-2 Honda dealership 1L bottle (by Idemitsu) is the latest and greatest in extending service life and providing better shift quality, consider that in Japan, Honda/Idemitsu already released MTF-3 which been proportedly claimed to provide elevated performance (and supposedly a full-syn base).
