on a new northstar generator with honda gx390 engine, i started it on 2nd pull brand new, ran it for almost half hour everything fine. shut it down, shipped it to a work site and it hasn't run since. never started after we shut it down the first time. at the work site it was troubleshooted and it wasn't getting any spark, flow chart according to honda service manual was bad coil. A new coil was ordered from a local store and installed, did not work and engine never started. Generator shipped back home, i have the new coil that was bought in my hands, i measure the black wire to iron core of coil and get open circuit so primary side shot right? haven't gotten the original coil yet to measure. part number on new coil bought is 30500-z5t-003. bad luck with new coil purchase, or are they known to be problematic? they are a "transistorized" coil ? Any idea if something wrong might have been done installing new coil that could have killed it?
it has a 4-pin wire connector that plugs into the coil but only uses 3 wires, red, black, yellow. yellow goes to the oil level sensor in block. red & black go to the engine stop switch on front panel, engine on connects the red & black wires.
