Honda CR-V Maintenance Minder System

I just have a quick question about the Maintenance Minder System on the 2009 Honda CR-V. I was wondering if, when I change the oil in the CR-V, if it will still calculate accurately with synthetic oil? I just wasn't sure if the system is only calibrated for normal oil and will just keep calculating for normal oil. Any help from people with newer Honda's with the MM and have synthetic oil, it would be great to know. Thanks!

I believe it is programed for whatever the manufacture recommends in the owners manual.

it's programmed for dino. the only OLM's that are programmed for synthetic have been VW; maybe some Merc's maybe some of the other German brands

someday we will actually have an OLM that analyzes the oil; just not yet.

All Honda OLM's are programmed for conventional oil, except Acura RDX. Mercedes, BMW, Audi ... are programmed for synthetic. Mercedes had been working on system that can analyze oil quality for a few years now.

I use the OLM in my 2006 Odyssey, and change out at 20% (about 6500 miles), with synthetics. Knowing the monitor is calibrated for dino since the large majority of owners will only use dino, it gives me peace of mind that I am going beyond standard maintenance. Yes, I know some here will say "its a waste", to use syns, but if it gives me confidence and only costs another $20 or so/year, it worth it to me. Additionally, 5w-20 is real thin oil for Texas, so the syns are even all the better.

I agree with the consensus that the MM is for conventional oil. I use the MM and got 6800 on the FF. Right now I am using M1 and have 5000 miles with 60% reading on the MM. I would not be comfortable using conventional oil knowing that it potentially could go 8500 or more miles before you hit 0-10%.

I don't see where OLMs or whatever they are called are of any value. It's my understanding that A OLM can't tell the differance between the cheapest dino or the most expensive synthetic.
A friend has a Silverado 5.3 and simply doubles his OLM on synt. oil. That has worked well for him as he just ignors the thing.

OLM's is much better than mileage counter for oil change reminder.
