Honda Civic Motor Mount

The motor mount on my 2010 Honda Civic Coupe is on its way out. The Honda part is over $200 plus shipping. Is this a place where a good aftermarket part can be used? Looking at NAPA I can get one for about $125. How about a used part on eBay for about $50? The job itself doesn’t look too bad. As a sidebar, Honda lists different part numbers for a Coupe versus a Sedan – so I’m a bit leery of an aftermarket part possibly not fitting precisely. Any suggested brands for aftermarket? As always, I appreciate the opinions of the forum members.

When faced with MM replacement on my daughter's '07 Honda Fit, we ordered the new one from Rock Auto (even though reviews said that they didn't last as long as OEM).

In preparation for the inevitable replacement, we did the Ricer trick of rejuvenating the broken mount with 3M Window Weld. Two years later, the replacement mount is still fine, and the repaired OEM is waiting in my garage to be fitted once again.

Get it from the dealer - when you call the parts dept., tell them your with so-in-so garage and you need their cost on the part. This will make it affordable!

(obviously, look up a after market shop in your area and replace the so-in-so with their name)

The after market mounts are garbage according to my Honda mechanic neighbor.

You can get a beck arnley mount to save money but you will feel a little more vibration at idle.

You could take your current mount and add some polyurethane to it. I have never done this but it looks interesting and you can get different hardness levels of polyurethane.

Its a good trick for stiffening mounts on the cheap, but probably a half blown OEM one transmits less NVH. I've got a "soft" solid poly torque mount in the Focus and its tolerable because I have a manual trans and don't have any stop and go traffic. It does keep the engine from flopping around much better than the OEM one though.

For liquid filled mounts I think its OEM or bust, I replaced the one in the Focus 60k miles ago and its holding up even with some autocross this summer.

case in point i needed a clutch pivot bolt for a subaru, most USA stores wanted $75+ but I found one in Saudi Arabia that sold it for $35~ shipped, thank you globalism.

Thinking of doing this trick as a backup to have in my garage as there is a second civic I take care off

Definitely leaning towards the Honda part as I plan on keeping the car several more years

Everytime I deviated from OEM motor mounts, I had much more engine vibrations and shorter life. The famous "made in India" Anchor brand was the worst.

OE only, it can be much cheaper, don't go down the aftermarket brand road its a horror trip. Example Honda 3.5 VCM rear mount $450 online price, 2 hrs labor, usually last 100K+ or 10 yrs. Aftermarket from Rock $39-50, last 100-200 miles or 2-4 weeks (seriously) before it collapses, now you have a real fiasco on your hands.
Rock will warranty the piece of junk but only send you a replacement which you have to buy up front if you want to keep the car on the road, another 2 hrs and sending the old one back for a refund.

A few weeks go by and its gone again, now what. Buy the OE for $450, drive on the bum one till it comes, 2 more hours labor on your back and your stuck with another piece of junk if you buy another and return it or throw the thing away and eat the loss of 4 hours labor and the junk mount.
I learned a long time ago, if the job takes more than a few min or is difficult to do only use OE, you can save a few bucks with some aftermarket parts on some jobs but this isn't one of them.

Its a done deal. Just keep the receipt, if it goes bad during the warranty many times Honda will labor out the replacement also (or reimburse) you just have to ask.
