Hi, I just replaced my front brake rotors and pads on my 04 civic LX sedan with genuine OEM Honda parts. The brake pads came with a shim for the outer pad and two shims for the inner pad (piston side). For each side.
The outer pad shim is black and I figured that out ok by the parts schematic on the dealer website. The inner pad however, was kind of difficult to make out based on the picture.
The inner pad's shims were 1 black and 1 shiny silver which was a thicker gauge metal than the black one. They are both used on the inner pad acording to the picture on the Honda dealers website.
I ended up putting the black one against the pad and the silver one on the outside so the piston will be contacting it. Both shims fit together fine via tabs that grab the edges of the brake pads.
Does anybody have first hand experience with front civic brakes using oem Honda parts that can let me know if this is ok? The test drive was fine and all seems well.
I put the silver on the outside because it would seem logical that the piston might be hard on the thinner black one and Honda uses the silver one as a "go between".
I cant compare setup to the old because it had aftermarket pads on there that dont use the same shim setup as oem honda pads. Thanks in advance.
