I want go 1 step up on oil grade from 20w to 30w.

I already did on my Kia Forte, which suggests 5-20w but I use 5-30W and it goes great, but Honda is different from Kia, it can hold thin oils far better. The engine is very smooth and quiet with 20W.

I know that going 1 step up with viscosity does not give any issue, but I want to be sure if on Honda engines it is ok.

Where do you live?

If not anywhere too cold. I have so far found a good 10W-30 to be best.

Some go to XW-40. Fine but those fuel dilute and shear fast to SAE 30 range where a good 10W-30 seems to just stay as designed

The 1.5T engine is sold worldwide. In different markets, Honda recommends different oils. There may be exceptions I'm not aware of, but these recommendations span 0W-20 to 5W-30. Generally, the engine is designed around 0W-20, but it's perfectly okay to run 5W-30. Personally, I wouldn't run anything thicker.

My personal experience suggests that 5W-30 is okay, but the engine will drag a little when cold. Nothing harmful, but a sensitive driver can feel the difference when cold. With my last change, 1.5T Civic, I mixed 0W-20 with 5w-30, and I like it. No real reason for the mixing, other than I wanted to get rid of some partial bottles going to waste. Honesty, anything between 0W-20 and 5W-30 runs just fine in these engines.

I live in Toronto on the oil cap it calls 0-20W, so I will put 0-30W
I'm quite surprised that they use 40W in an engine that calls for 20W.

So 0-30W is perfect

Do your driving conditions suggest any concerns over fuel dilution ?

Otherwise, Forte vs Civic are quite different.

Go very beefy with every Kia, and trend towards thin with VTEC Honda.

In your location (Toronto) I'd be looking for a Mid-SAPS 0w30 like Mobil 1 ESP.

It's perfectly fine in the L15 and K20C.
