Honda 1.5T Oil Choice

I have the same 1.5T in my Civic Si, I've spent countless nights doing research on it, and I live in hot Florida.

I dumped the FF after 1000 miles, (1600km).
I change the oil every 5000 miles (8000km) with the cheapest 5w30 synthetic I can find.

And there's nothing wrong with that plan.

Its in the manual.

Ok, but the reason they use it is not for CAFE.

Ok, but the reason they use it is not for CAFE.

They seem to be going in that direction where they might be mandating higher fuel economy.

Apparently the EU had more stringent fuel economy standards. While many European manufacturers seem to have gone with lower weight motor oils, many manufacturers still specify higher weights. However, the way I see it, Europeans tend to drive smaller cars on average, which will obviously make a bigger dent in average fuel economy compared to trying to extract more fuel economy out of a larger engine.

0w20 or 0/5w30 for the Honda 1.5T motor?

My father has just purchased one of these. I'm personally not too comfortable with a 0w20 in this motor. Keen to hear opinions!

Also, is it worth dumping the factory fill at say 500km?

The engine calls for 0W20, so use that. I run full synthetic 0W20 in both my Honda's and using a Fram TG filter right on both right now. I have 65k miles on the CRV and 71k miles on the Civic and never had any issues with either of them.

Son has Honda CRV with the 1.5T. Winter oil changes I use 0W-20 full syn Dexos 1 gen 2. Summer oil changes I use half 0w-20 mixed with halt 5w-30 Dexos 1 gen 2 full syn. Change oil at 5000 mile intervals. Oil dip stick stinks of gas as well as the used oil. Car is almost 2 years old with about 45000 miles on it. Use OEM Honda filter. No issues so far with the performance of the engine. Car runs fine. Miles on car are about 80% highway miles. Drives 100 miles a day round trip to work all highway miles.

You are right, I think. Cheapest dexos1 Gen2 full synth I can find is SuperTech 5w30 at walmart.

I like that, somewhat. Not completely. .... I might say just use M1 AFE 0w30 dexos1 Gen2 oil from walmart (and a fram ultra oil filter) year around though instead of mixing in the summer. That way you get the "0w" Honda wants, and the "30" we want for fuel dilution, all in one non-mixed oil.
