Homes are the same price $399k, in same area, if you had to buy and live in one of them

Concur the big structure in A is conversation point. When I looked at it, I guessed the homeowner was trying to distract from the lack of any architectural features on the main residence. The area gets almost no rain, another flag to why that big structure was built.
 
Are we ignorning location? One is much closer to El Paso, but appears to be in a bit of a commercial area. The other is all the way to White Sands, but across from a gas station.

Both are very outdated.

I guess I would need to see them in person. Neither are great nor terrible. I think B has better bones, but just looking at pictures can be deceptive.
 
A is staged better, but the flat roof and no garage would disqualify it for me. Even though the area gets little rain, if it is like other desert areas I'm familiar with, when it does rain it can really come down. Flat roofs can be a problem in downpours.
 
Neither is especially appealing, but A does look a bit like a budget motel with that huge porte cochere, flat roof and limited fenestration. A does have generally more luxe interior features, although the kitchen is a bit overwrought. Neither home would be considered an exemplar of good taste.
 
Dark wood is a turnoff on A. And no garage would be a dealbreaker. Maybe not shown in photos?

B, next to an industrial area is not ideal.

Sorry, but both look way too dry and dusty to me.
 
(A) lacks curb appeal. It's ugly on the outside. The owner really likes that baroque style. Both on the trim, cabinets, and the furniture. It's a bit much, but have to give credit for taking the style to its conclusion. But those showers!

(B) much better looking exterior. 3 car garage. Showers are nice but not as nice. I'd turn that tub into a nice walk in shower. I'm very anti taking showers in a batch tub. A lot more ornate inside than I expected on both houses.
 
Not crazy about either one. HOWEVER if I had to chose I would take hands down, the first one "A" I could get used to it.
"A" is significantly larger. The interior is a bit "heavy looking" yet much more modern than "B"
"A" looks incomplete, maybe a slab for a garage there? If not, plenty of room for one.

"B" is just too dated. No way would ˆ go for it.

Of the two, A for the location and lot, and lots of space to add a separate garage, but it looks like a few corners were cut in building and maintaining it, so I'd need to go through it with a building inspector.
That area looks like quite a different place to live than what I think is ideal. I guess I wouldn't have to cut the grass very often! I'll have to get down to the SW sometime for an extended road trip, just to see what its like.
