Every older Ferrari I've ever seen online has had a Fram filter on it. The guy in the video said it's just about the only filter you can get for them.
 
I bet the dealer still sells OEM ones, and considering you had the $$ to purchase the car I doubt 100 dollars (likely) for the oil filter will be a big deal.
 
It would eat me inside if I was running an OCOD on my Ferrari and didn't try my hardest to find a reasonably priced alternative...

What's so unique about the orange FRAM that this Ferrari takes? Can't believe there isn't a single better filter that crosses over.
 
Nothing, they are just the only ones who will continue to make a filter for such a super niche market.
 
I do 20K miles on the over sized Purolator 24458 oil filter for our Hondas. But that's on 3 OCI's in one year of driving.

You need not to worry about going past 10k miles on an oil filter if the engine is spotless on the inside.
 
If this filter is the PH28041 (he says 2804-1) the threads, and gasket diameters are the same, or close to, those of a PH3600. Except the PH28041 has no relief valve.

Could not the PH3600 work OK if the PH28014 is in fact the original? Also, NAPA makes the 1622 and Wix the 51622. Could they work too? I can't believe there is only one source in the world for a filter that works on this guy's two vehicles.
 
Guys, I am curious about this Fram filter. On the video it looks to be: PH2804-1. Not the dash. I think this is supposed to be a PH28041, but why the slight difference in the name? Could this be a phony OCOD and not the real thing? Fram does not list a PH2804-1 but the list a PH28041.

You must help me with this OCOD mystery.

I looked on Summit Racing Equipment and typed in PH2804-1 in the inquiry and this came up:

$13.95 is the cost of this OCOD.

It seems to be one and the same as a PH28041. Maybe they just eliminated the dash. Why would some other filter, like a PH3600, not work?

Or does the relief valve of "some other filter" mean not enough oil pressure in this Ferrari? I suppose that might be true if you are supposed to gun the engine all the time, but why not some other filter? Why not, for instance, a Mobil Extended Performance filter like an M1-102?

On another video of his, he cuts open a filter and he calls it a URI filter when it appears to be a Pure1 filter. It appears that he is not a filter expert, but, hey, who is?
I think you are right about the part number. If you go to RockAuto and do a manufacturers search and type in the number with the "-", it immediately reverts to the PH28041. If you look at the applications of the PH28041, it shows to be used on Ferrari cars. If the PH3600 fits, and IF the PH8A would fit, then he might consider the Fram HP1 filter that has a 200 PSI burst strength and a 10 GPM flow rating. Of course, that would only be if the PH8A would fit. I'm probably getting way ahead of myself. There's probably a good reason that Ferrari cars use the PH28041 instead of the PH8A.
I wonder if the engine bearings on that car are getting pretty loose and the filter just can't handle the oil flow at 8K RPM.
 
The youtube guy is an ignorant fool and likely a lying ignorant fool. That's the only topic worth discussing from his video.
 
As much as I dislike FRAM's, this guy would not be the poster child I would put up for as an example. To many unknowns or other plausible conclusions than the filter.

Fram bashing seems to be quite popular on Youtube, but many of the video's I've seen were suspect or just a result of horrible neglect. So who knows with this one, I'd rather have something from a BITOG'er myself.
 
Showed this very Fram video at the Fram Tour/meeting I recently attended at the Fram Labs. According to the information provided there, the Ferrari has a built in engine bypass, like GM, therefore there is none on the orange can filter. That being the case, it's quite likely the engine bypass/relief valve either failed or was tinkered with or disabled. Apparently the latter is quite popular amoung some racing enthusiast's, though for the life of me I can't understand why. If that is the case, a collapsed media is quite plausible, even likely.

As for the second filter (yellow), can't really tell what it is. Afaik, all P1's use a silicone adbv, the one in the youtube appears to be nitrile. Looks like it held up ok especially for the whacked oci's the guy is running. But note it too has no bypass on filter either. Both the orange can and and UFI have a standpipe though.

I will agree the guy doing the youtubes doesn't appear to be the most knowledgable regarding filter construction.

For a filter to collapse, there must be a big pressure differential. A failed bypass valve wouldn't create that. Or so I think.

Edit: Sorry, I just now realized that you mean that the Ferrari has the bypass TO THE FILTER built into the engine.
