I did an oil change on a '21 Sonata with 2.5L today, it's my daughters boyfriends car with 85k miles. I went to dealer to get the filter and wanted to get the PCV valve also. Dealer said it is internal in the valve cover. It can be changed but VC needs to come off. With all known issues really Hyundai?

Looking for part# and details I came across this video '21-'24 2.0 Elantra and the part on some sites says it fits, others say doesn't fit of course. The sites that say it fits list it for 1.6, 2.0, 2.5 smartstream.

His car is burning some, not too much that I can tell from having him check and top off over the past couple months. Now that we have a known starting mileage and oil level hopefully I'll get a better idea. Funny also that his manual calls for 5.5 qts which barely went over low level on dipstick. Some places list the 5.5 qts, some 6.1qts. I got about 6.2 out of it poured into empty jugs and know it was full. Some of the forums say the dipstick was changed in newer years, same motor but now is that higher qty. I wonder if it was changed at dealer? He got it used from Enterprise rental car sales.

I'm running Valvoline Restore and Protect in it now and told him to stick with that whether I do it or he goes to shop. Motor looks clean through fill port, hopefully PCV valve not gummed up. Any other thoughts to clean that out besides yanking VCG and replacing?

This engine does not have a PCV valve you'd normally replace as maintenance. It has a crankcase pressure regulator that's built into the valve cover. Not super familiar with this particular engine, but generally speaking a PCV system like this doesn't have a lot of room for error, other than the diaphragm in the assembly will likely go bad eventually, in which case it'll start to run bad and you'll have to replace the VC.

I just did an oil change on this yesterday. I'm not sure why but decided to unscrew the fill cap some. I was thinking about the videos of people showing the fill cap "bouncing" from internal pressure from bad PCV etc.

This thing had like serious vacuum at the fill cap, definite resistance trying to lift it up.

What does that mean? Is that a good thing or bad thing?

No oil was burnt/used over the 6200 miles it was in there so I guess not all bad.
