HM oils. Ok to mix 2 different brands?

Is there any harm in mixing Mobil High mileage 5w30 and Valvoline Dura blend 5w30? I am switching to Mobil high mileage and have two qts of the Valvoline left over from a previous change.

I don't see any harm in mixing oils of the same weights. People around here even mix oils of different weights and types for some kind of "custom blend".

No real harm, but why dilute your M1?
This seems like a waste of the M1.
How much oil does this car take?
You could either buy enough additional Durablend for one last change or use it in your OPEs.
If you plan a used oil analysis, the sooner you stop adding sodium add pack oils the better.
Two quarts of Durablend will only extend the high sodium levels you'll see with any Valvoline oil, which will in turn at least partially mask any coolant leak, especially if your car has a potassium free coolant installed.

It is not M1, Mobil High mileage. I never dilute M1. Takes 4 1/2qts.

As usual no problems mix away, but technically you are diluting the Mobil with an inferior oil but we're verging on splitting hairs.

+1....I thought that the general thinking on this issue is....only mix the same brand. I agree that diluting the Mobil 1 High Mileage is not the way to go, especially with an inferior oil.

So Mobil Super HM?
It contains sodium to begin with and has an add pack very similar to Durablend.
In this case, mix away and no harm done.

Hi Dean There is no harm in mixing the two oils. Your engine willnot know the difference.
