HM OIL; To use or not to use...

A Valvoline rep told me that they've discontinued Durablend in favor of Maxlife, which seems to be Durablend with additional seal conditioners. Sounds like they're now phasing out Synpower in favor of "Full Synthetic with Maxlife."

Durablend, Maxlife... they're both very good oils. My CV runs smooth as silk on Durablend. Next oil change it'll be getting Maxlife.

Maxlife is great oil, have used it a lot and would be disappointed if it went away. Synpower I have never used, just doesn't "grab" me at all when lined up against the other major's syn offerings.

It will be interesting if they market MaxLife Tech Syn in all weights across their product line. They've had 5W-40 MaxLife in Europe for a while...

Wemay.....they are not getting out of the syn game just dumping synpower in favor of Full Synthetic with maxlife tech. I was told shelf space and having similar products was the reasoning.

Ah, got it and thanks. Then as Garak wrote:

I have seen Valvoline full synthetic with MaxLife in 10w30 locally to me but that is the only viscosity I've seen it in. I still see SynPower in 0W20, 5W20, 5W30, 10W30, etc. all the time. If full synthetic with MaxLife becomes available in 5W20 in my area then I'll switch to that from my current MaxLife Synthetic blend

So Valvoline is going to have two oils only? Conventional and High Mileage (Valvoline conventional and Valvoline MaxLife)?

Wonder if they'll make Maxlife 20W50 synthetic since they currently have Synpower 20W50 (which is rare as hen's teeth)?

Sounds like a good strategy to me. No same-brand cannibalism.

Yes. Considering MaxLife Synpower and Synpower are both SN/GF-5, I don't see a lot of point in offering both. As it is, in the last number of years, the name "MaxLife" is what brung Ashland to the dance, as it were, so they should keep it visible.
