Because most people are here to learn, not claiming to be experts and spouting [censored]. If they do, they are quickly shot down from what I have seen. Making mistakes is fine, I do it all the time, but most people here make mistakes when asking a question or trying to learn. And for the record, the Abe Lincoln guy did get shot down as I remember (f.e. I think I asked him about how Abe Lincoln was responsible for the arab-israeli conflict or something, can't remember).

I beg to differ. Most of the mistakes are made by people who don't have the knowledge and are responding to questions anyway. And very, very seldom does anyone get "shot down" for it and never to the degree these guys are. As to the Abe Licoln guy you and I are the only ones that responded, everyone else skipped right past it. Why wasn't there 4-5 pages blasting that nonsense like there is here? But if everyone's happy launching a full force attack on other sites while ignoring what goes on here, then have at it.

"In [understanding lubricants], people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue, but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing." -Mark Twain

* just replaced "religion and politics" to the topic at hand :)

Mark Twain was a very wise man.

In two years of BITOGing, I don't think I've ever read an explanation/advice that far off base, while at the same time being espoused as if it were the gospel. It's one thing to be blatantly wrong. It's another to be blatantly wrong and think you're right.

I thought this sounded familiar - apparently even I myself posted about midway through the page (John S) - but I declined to bother trying to clear-up what continued afterward - it somehow didn't seem worth the effort. I thought the next post's effort to send people over here would have helped stop the silliness - but apparently that would have been too much work for some people on there...
There seem to be several on there who prefer typing to reading - so responses often aren't worth the effort anyway.
John

The sad part is, I'm a member of the org. (I've owned 4 J bodies)

What you have to remember aout this site is that it is almost all kids now. Posts about 24s and body kits are quite common.

Sad as it is, I'm not surprised. I think someone needs to introduce them this site.

I'll have to check it iut over there....

People usually adopt the first "credible" explaination they hear and repeat it, ad infinitum, rather than learn/research it for themselves.

What, that's not how it works?

Only it's 30+5=35 @ 100F and 35-5=30 @ 210F, not zero F that's all wrong.

This is humor of course. :)
