GoldPlug although I just started using some M14 units from China. So long as the plug itself is of reasonable quality risk seems near zero. Even if the magnet comes out, it's not going far.

I like supporting GoldPlug but their stuff isn't cheap

I just pulled a GoldPlug from our '12 Ram 5.7 oil pan and there were definitely small shards on there. I'm sure the filter would catch them but I like the entertainment of seeing them. Most of us don't know unless we're cutting our filters and fanning them out in the sunlight....

Their metal bleed screw for Duramax fuel filter housings is the best thing EVAR. The OEM plastic is as dumb as TTB and DOD/AFM and 3V Fords -- so, really dumb

I just put an M14 in an '05 Duramax engine pan. Again, not really seeing how bad things can happen unless the plug just falls out

I have never added one to a car. Some have come from the factory for the differential or transmission.
I have a car and a truck presently, each with over 375k miles. They did not have them.

I hear these are decent quality, but no personal experience.

Goldplug. In some cases they arent the same size head as OE (e.g. larger thread Mercedes diesel oil plugs), so then I use Dimple.

How about putting a stack of 2-3 Neodymium coin magnets on the drain plug? Or attaching Neodymium coin magnets directly to the crankcase close to the opening of the drainplug? When it comes time for the oil change, remove the magnet from the drainplug or crankcase, drain the oil, and the metal filings would pour out.

I make my own. Samarium cobalt. I need to make one for my ram.

I though i would show the one i just made. This will go in the mazda later, another one for the ram.

I've had one in the elantra for several years.

Dorman drain plug, samarium cobalt 1/4 x 1 inch cylinder magnets.

I drill an 11/64 hole, then a 1/4 inch.
Clean the bolt and magnet with carb spray.

If it's tight I freeze the magnet, then use JB weld epoxy.

I am running it on my Sportwagen with an aftermarket pan, struggling with getting the crush washer to seal but the plug itself is v. good.

They do have a decent website that lets you look up by application. I kinda like that.

I recently got a GoldPlug on a Warehouse Deal because I'm that cheap. It came in a plastic bag rather than the factory blister pack and paper card, bit it was the correct part with the (aluminum) washer. I was satisfied -- don't need the packaging anyway

You do have to be careful installing the drain plug, as the magnets are somewhat brittle.
