High mileage synthetic?

Is there any oils that are full synthetic for high mileage cars? I see Valvoline makes a high mileage blend but I want all synthetic with seal additives. Also was wondering if any high mileage oil is capable of going 10,000 miles? I will be using this in a 1988 Suburban that has seen 10k oci's with Mobil 1 since it was new and nothing else. I am however starting to use a little more oil because of small leaks, it use to use 2qts every 10k and now I am up to about 3qts every 10k, I know that is not bad for a motor with 300k on it but the motor is tight and runs great so if I can avoid taking it out just to replace seals and gaskets by using an oil with additives I would like to try that first.

Both Valvoline and Mobil 1 make the HM version but Mobil 1 is easier to find than the Valvoline. Try WalMart for either as they seem to carry the jugs of it for a good price. I use the Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 in my Volvo and it is a great oil.

Or does the seal additives deteriorate to the point of not working by then? The reason I want a High Mileage oil that can go 10k is because I only drive this truck about 10k a year and change it once a year, I would like to stick with that schedule as I am extremely busy now days and don't have time to do oil changes every 3 to 6 months. Hence why I switched my wifes truck over to AMSOIL Signature Series and will practice once a year OCI's on her truck as well, she drives more than 10k a year though so I did not feel comfortable leaving Mobil 1 in for a year.

While it can't hurt to try, don't expect any High Mileage oil to miraculously heal all the leaks.

You might be right about the lighter seal conditioners burning off of getting 'used up.' But since you're adding all that fresh oil, I don't think it will be a problem. If the seals do improve, and the magic ingredients so go away, the system will naturally reach an equilibrium level fairly soon. (As the oil ages, seals _may_ start to leak, requiring you to add more fresh oil, which will slow the leaking....)

If running a 30W, you might aim for the 10w30 mix, it's thicker and should leak fractionally slower. Or try the 10W-40 syrup!

Like you, I have primarily used Mobil 1 over the years since it came out back in the 1970's. I always did a one year OCI, usually 18,000 to 20,000 miles. My yearly mileage has dropped since I retired back in 2001, and I was doing only about 6000 miles annually. I used any brand of conventional for 2 or 3 years, and then noticed I was driving more (about 10,000 miles yearly) and I have gone back to M1. My last batch of M1 was the 10W30 High Mileage version, and I changed it at 9117 miles. My Nissan Pathfinder had used about one third of a quart during this OCI. Back in the day,I would average about 3 quarts of additional oil during my 18,000 to 20,000 mile OCI's.

If you have to add a couple of quarts during your one year, 10,000 mile OCI, you should be fine with M1 High Mileage.

I've had excellent results with Redline and the despised Royal Purple, with major leaks on a Saturn crank seal and two Miata cam sensor O-ring seals.

I know Redline has esters in it.

I think RP does also.

Mobil 1 High Mileage oils will go 10K in your Chevy. It may help with leaks over time.

Leaks or no leaks, Mobil 1 High Mileage oils are possibly Exxon/Mobil's best motor oils. I know people that use Mobil High Mileage oils in new engine rebuilds(classic/muscle cars) because they love the oil/additives.

Maxlife synthetic 10W30 used to be one fine oil with ACEA A3 rating. I don't know if it's available now, I still have some in my stash from when it was free after rebate (I know, quite a while ago).
